Glenn Beck, the loveable scamp, hasn’t been around much lately–ever since Fox dropped his special brand of ham-fisted tear-soaked hatemongering, he retired to a state-of-the-art bomb shelter deep in a Colorado mountain so he could swim in his manmade lake of precious gold doubloons. He emerged from that lake recently, however, in protest of a community college art exhibit.
The exhibit features a painting of Obama on the cross, which looks like this:
The painting is by Michael D’Antuono and the exhibit appears to focus on art with political themes (it’s called “Artists on the Stump – the Road to the White House 201”). The exhibit takes place at Bunker Hill Community College in Boston. The painting in question is called “Truth,” which even we find a little heavy-handed.
Anyway, fine. Artists have been interpreting Christian iconography since the beginning. Moreover, community college students have been making faux-provocative art about as long.
Who would get so mad at a community college student’s painting that he’d fill a Mason jar with his own urine?
We guess “Mason jar full of pee,” isn’t quite accurate. Rather, it’s a “mixed media sculpture”… made of a Mason jar, filled with Glenn Beck’s pee.
There’s also a figurine of Obama:
Beck isn’t technically protesting the exhibit, either. He’s offended by the artwork but he supports the artist’s freedom of expression. Here’s the explanation from Beck’s camp:
And while many have protested the art, including people in New York City, Glenn actually agreed with the artist that the first amendment should override people’s hurt feelings over the image. That’s why he decided to create some art of his own.
“Art is in the eye of the beholder and this guy has a right to do this. I think its offensive. I don’t think its close to reality but whatever floats your boat. I support his right to do exactly that. I agree with him that people who are upset should not trump his right to be able to do it and be able to hang it wherever he wants – as long as its wanted there,” Glenn said.
And while some may find it surprising that Glenn would support the right for a person to paint a picture of Obama as Christ, he said it all goes to the Constitution – the one irrefutable piece of art which gives people the freedom.
“That document says I can’t stop him, and the spirit of that document is that I shouldn’t try,” he said.
But would people on the left agree with Glenn? In the same way that the artist pushed the buttons of conservatives and people of faith with his painting of Obama, Glenn decided to create his own piece of art with Obama.
After a day drinking a lot of water, Glenn had a mason jar filled with…his own special brew of yellow liquid on set. Glenn took a Obama figurine, and then placed it in the jar. The result? “Obama in Pee Pee” – which will soon be up for sale for $25,000.
Not including people in New York City!
So, in all fairness it’s actually a Mason jar full of Glenn Beck’s pee, a confused and misguided publicity stunt, and a bizarrely sentient allusion to Piss Christ… all in deeply stupid one.
Beck threw the jar–along with a few other willfullly inept paintings–on eBay and eBay subsequently took it down. You can still buy “Obama in Pee Pee,” you just have to contact them directly. The proceeds benefit some charities because Beck doesn’t need anyone to buy his pee, he has a goddamn mountain full of gold.
Sorry for making you look at Glenn Beck’s pee.
