The popular Tumblr blog LadyScouts salutes women for being strong, independent, and “grown-ass women.” They award badges for everything from fixing stuff in your apartment to helping a friend through a breakup to earning your own paycheck. The brains behind LadyScouts will be writing once a week for TheGloss to celebrate a woman whose awesomeness has made her worthy of praise and sisterly respect.

The ultimate dream of any young LadyScout is simple: grow up to be Meryl Streep. The goal may not be as plainly stated as that, but when most women add up their aspirations (to have grace and dignity, to maintain a sense of fun, to look unbelievable all the time, to be massively successful, to be massively respected, to be massively adored), they add up to Meryl.

Meryl Streep is an icon who, despite being mind-bendingly gorgeous, is known for nothing more than pure talent. She disappears into any role — fully realizing her characters, inhabiting them, bringing them to life, other synonyms, and also winning all the Oscars. In accordance with her chameleon-ing, Meryl has also managed to keep her personal life personal. Her public image consists of unparalleled skill, unbridled admiration from everyone everywhere ever all the time (even when they are sleeping), and the ability to laugh at herself and be the best. She is humble and wise and she at least TRIED to save La Lohan.

We can’t say enough good things about Meryl, but at the same we barely feel capable of talking about her. She’s Meryl Effing Streep. We just want to make her proud.

A Sample of Notable Badges Earned: We want to award Ms. Streep the Get Outta Town Badge for taking us out of town on a FILMIC JOURNEYS.  We follow her to Africa in Out of Africa, to the Salmon River in The River Wild, to England (not France!) in The French Lieutenant’s Woman, and to the Edge in Postcards from the Edge, and through the power of her characterization (fancy for “being good at acting”), she transports us with her on these escapes.

In every possible way, Meryl earns the You’re a Fine Wine Badge for her ever-increasing awesomeness. Have you seen her in Manhattan? Oh my god, that face, that hair, that presence, that hair again — and yet, she is exponentially better every second. Better now than at the top of this post, better now than in the first clause of this sentence. As her Silkwood co-star Cher points out, “The stupid bitch is doing it better than all of us!”
