Mr. Darcy as a cocky, rich American? Hmmm…It might work for some people, but purists prefer their Darcy’s with a vintage vibe. Would Mr. Darcy really wear a snazzy bow tie and contrasting shirt? Another issue is that there isn’t enough Mr. Darcy in the series.

6. Martin Henderson, Bride and Prejudice, 2004Mr Darcy Martin Hender

Jane Austen got the Bollywood treatment with this film. Mr. Darcy is once again an American and looks like a real-life surfer Ken doll with his long layered hair. He’s easy on the eyes, but there’s something missing in his look. It might be a waistcoat, or it could be some color to match the rest of the fun film.

5. Elliot Cowan, Lost in Austen, 2008Mr. Darcy Eliot Cowan

Does Elliot Cowan look good in vintage clothes? Yes. Does he make you a bit weak in the knees when he’s uttering Jane Austen’s prose? Sure. Does he look attractive in a wet shirt? Definitely. However, it is difficult to compete with another Darcy’s classic wet shirt scene.

4. Sir Laurence Olivier, Pride and Prejudice, 1940Mr Darcy Laurence Olivier

Unlike some other adaptations, this one has definitely stood the test of time. The black-and-white film seems to only make Sir Laurence Olivier’s Mr. Darcy hotter. Dude knew how to wear a bow tie and ruffled shirt like no other.

3. Matthew MacFayden, Pride and Prejudice. 2005Mr Darcy Matthew MacFayden

This movie received a lot of nominations during awards season, but Matthew MacFayden deserves an award for his Mr. Darcy. He pulled off a waistcoat and top hat, which are tricky things to do. Even when he was standing out in the rain, he looked good instead of like a drowned rat.

2. Colin Firth, Bridget Jones’s Diary, 2001Mark Darcy Christmas Jumper GIF

Wasn’t the subtitle for Bridget Jones’ Diary “A Modern Retelling of the Classic Jane Austen Novel, Pride and Prejudice?” Possibly. You cannot have a Mr. Darcy list without including the grumpy-but-charming Mark Darcy. Daniel Cleaver was hot, but we liked Mark very much. Who didn’t love that reindeer jumper?

1. Colin Firth, Pride and Prejudice, 1995Mr Darcy Collin Firth

Who else could it be? Colin Firth is the Mr. Darcy. That wet shirt is enough of a reason for him to earn the number one spot. It has been over 20 years and people still talk about that scene. However, his ability to make a statement pair of sideburns look very attractive should not be underestimated.
