The Duke And Duchess Of Cambridge Tour Australia And New Zealand - Day 17

This super weird day from doll and clown hell may have just been saved by the inspiring sight of Kate Middleton and Prince William attempting to DJ at an Australian youth center, where they “got down with young rap artists, dancers and other musicians.” Oh, happy day!

Apparently William threw his wife under the bus and made her take her turn first, and she mixed it up on the ones and twos under the tutelage of one DJ Shane Peterer. She did a much better job than William, who fumbled when it was his turn. This is all too much to bear.

Reaching new levels of Mom and Dad, you’re embarrassing me!, the couple flailed, clapped arrhythmically (I assume), gave the old ‘thumbs up,’ and looked adorably uncomfortable while thrust into all of that youthful splendor. I can’t blame them–if somebody was like “Hey, doofus, go DJ in front of people,” I’d probably just go ahead and pass out.

There is something deeply gratifying about seeing these otherwise perfect human beings act like giant dweebs–these rare moments of dorkiness humanize them and give them a bit of personality. I like them much better knowing that they get awkward and look like big dumb butts at times instead of existing as perfectly cut out cardboard people. This gives them some dimension. This makes them fun, relatable, and dare I say it, just like us.

This event did provide us with a wonderful quote from the Prince, who is frequently overshadowed by his better half. When it comes to his musical tastes, he’s pretty eclectic:

“I quite like house music. I like my house music. I like a bit of rock and roll, a bit of R&B. I’m not a big heavy metal fan. I’d like to be but I’m not.”

Well, we all have aspirations, your Highness.
