Miley Cyrus "Bangerz" Tour - Anaheim, CaliforniaMiley Cyrus kissed a girl and then tweeted about it.

Oh Miley, Miley, Miley, perhaps a little PG-13 tongue kissing between two women was shocking behavior when Britney and Madonna locked lips at the VMAs in 2003, but it’s 2014 now and engaging in a mini make-out session with someone of your gender is not a shocking novelty. In context, it’s actually pretty rude, and FFS, you already did it like two weeks ago with Katy Perry.

During a Las Vegas show on her Bangerz tour, the Disney teenybopper turned MTV twerker full on mouth-kissed one of her adoring fans who just so happened to be a lady. Girl-on-girl action! Sound the freaking alarms, right?

Typically, I like Miley Cyrus. She’s Dolly Parton‘s goddaughter, for godsakes. I think she’s cool, albeit troublingly overeager. My issue is not with public gay kisses, which are objectively awesome; rather, it’s Cyrus’ try-too-hard attitude that creates a problem. When Miley Cyrus attempts inclusivity it comes across as exploitive. She exploits black culture, different kinds of bodies, and in this instance, homosexuality, all under the guise of being progressive and in attempts to make her act more “edgy.”

Miley’s sexual orientation is really none of my business, but the performative girl-on-girl smooch is both played out and trivializing. Madonna and Britney kissed, Katy Perry kissed a girl and liked it, Katy Perry kissed Miley, and yada yada yada. It’s nothing we haven’t seen and complained about before. Ostensibly straight women getting sexy on each other to shock and arouse an audience is beyond boring. Had Cyrus made out with a dude-stranger on stage, would his sex be a big deal? Probably not. People would focus more on how it’s a little gross to kiss someone who might have rabies or bite your tongue off, then they’d slut-shame the hell out of her.

Miley should be making out with anybody she wants to make-out with regardless of their parts and sexual orientation; however, the gender of the stranger should not be more shocking than the fact that Miley put her mouth on a stranger’s mouth.

Regarding the kiss, Miley tweeted:
