It often seems that whenever somebody exposes their derriere or private parts for the world to see that it’s for purpose self-promoting reasons (yes, I’m talking about you Kim Kardashian). The human body is pretty darn beautiful but it can sometimes get a teensy bit tired when you unexpectedly happen across it in all its glory while checking your Tumblr dashboard. That said, it’s refreshing when folks decide to #freethenipple or traipse about shamelessly in their birthday suits in the name of celebrating their bodies. Here are seven photoshoots that prove that NSFW pictures are good for getting tons of Instagram likes and for your self esteem.

1. The Love Your Body Now Project: Beth Sanders

In this installment from Shannon Bradley-Colleary’s Love Your Body Now Project, photographer Beth Sanders stepped from behind the camera to become the subject of a series of pictures that can only be described as empowering. After seeing how confident she is in these photos, you’ll find it hard to be believe that the 50-year-old photographer ever struggled with her body image.

2. Caitlin Stasey’s Photoshoot For Her Website Herself.com

To be honest, I didn’t know who Caitlin Stasey was before she launched her new site Herself. But after stalking her Twitter timeline I kind of wish that we were besties. Her nude photoshoot showed us that she’s not afraid of exercising agency over her body and I love her for that.

3. The Love Your Body Now Project: Lisanne and Colette Sartor

During her mission to spread the gospel of body positivity, Love Your Body Now Project founder Shannon Bradley-Colleary ended up connecting with identical twins Lisanne and Colette Sartor. The result was a series of nude photos of Lisanne and Collette that are so beautiful they’ll inspire you to throw on some body paint and dance in front of your DSLR.

4. These Photos From Fashion Photographer Victoria Janashvili’s Upcoming Art Photography Book Curves

If you’d told me yesterday I would find photos of naked women covered in white body paint inspiring, I would have probably looked at you askance. And yet, here we are. Fashion photographer Victoria Janashvili decided to use her lens to capture women with normal bodies for her upcoming book Curves. These photos that she took of models Denise Bidot and Marina Bulatkina are everything.

5. The Love Your Body Now Project: Stephanie Athena-Marie

Remember Stephanie Athena-Marie? She’s the girl who dealt with the cheating husband and lost 100-pounds while learning to love herself. If these photos of her traipsing through nature like a carefree nymph don’t make you want to frolic through a field while shouting “I love myself!” I don’t know what will.

6. Herself.com: Candice C.

In a world that so easily objectifies women’s bodies, these photos of Toronto-based dominatrix Candice C. AKA Lethal Lady V for are a breath of fresh air. Like most of Herself.com’s photoshoots they get to the core of who the subject is. In this case we’re seeing a woman who, underneath it all, is “loving, trustworthy and has a good head on her shoulders.”

7. Miley Cyrus’s Very Naked V Magazine Shoot

I know that seeing Miley Cyrus’s name on this list is probably making you raise your eyebrows right about now and I don’t blame you. If the shoe were on the other foot,  I’d be doing the same thing. I mean, we all know that Miley’s naked photoshoot for V Magazine was just a cry for attention right?

To be honest, I can’t disagree with that logic. But I think we all have to admit that it’s brave to show everything your mama gave you to millions of people who probably can’t wait to critique you. You have to be pretty confident to do something like that if your name isn’t Amber Rose. And confidence, unlike Miley’s twerking, is something I can get behind.
