The 2014 Met Gala finally came and goodness gracious, it was glorious. After Michlle Obama kicked things off in a gorgeous green Naeem Khan at the ribbon cutting ceremony earlier in honor of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s costume center being named after Anna Wintour, the event’s fashion parade got underway. While there were some looks that did not quite cut it, plenty of celebrities, models and other fashionable folks put their best (high-heeled, perfectly-pedicured) foot forward this evening.
So, who made the best dressed list for this year’s Costume Institute Ball? And would you add any of these onto the “best Met Gala looks of all time” list?
I’m so down with Anne Hathaway‘s look tonight.
How could anybody epitomize glamour the way Dita von Teese does in Zac Posen right here? Real question. Important research.
We knew Bee Shaffer would come through. This lovely pale blue Alexander McQueen gown was the perfect choice for Anna Wintour‘s daughter.
Suki Waterhouse is stunning in this soft pink gown from Burberry.
Zoe Saldana just showed us all how it’s done in this fantastic Michael Kors design. It’s equal parts striking and delicate–perfect for an event where restrained creativity goes a long way.
Gisele Bunchen and Tom Brady are that couple at prom everyone hates, but they did look pretty great.
This inky number Gisele picked is very fun.
Good gracious, Karlie Kloss looks magical as a gilded castle.
SO DOWN WITH KATIE HOLMES RIGHT NOW. As per usual, Marchesa was an excellent choice for the red carpet. The vivid color is incredible, while the softly defined top portion of the dress is absolutely beautiful.
Allow me to remind you all the Chloe Grace Moretz is 17 and already pulling off styles like these from Chanel Couture.
Blake Lively in Gucci Premiere: she may be annoying at times, but good gracious, this is a beautiful look. I also sort of love when you can tell a person on the red carpet knows he or she looks A+, which you can totally see in Blake’s face here. I’m a sucker for confidence (yes, even when it comes to conventionally stunning people who likely get told they’re hot all the effing time).
While Lupita is seemingly incapable of landing herself on a “worst dressed” list, so it’s no surprise she’s here, this is still an especially exciting outfit for her. We all already knew she wears Prada like nobody’s business, but still–this is a whole other kind of “best dressed” than the epic elegance that was this year’s Oscars. How can one person pull off so many headbands so well?
Who would’ve guessed that Sarah Silverman would have been on here? But really, she looks incredible.
Again, I never thought I’d put Selena Gomez on this list, but the color of this Diane von Furstenberg gown is striking. Plus, it fits perfectly. It’s a definite win, particularly with those gorgeous silver leaf earrings.
Holy. Effing. Eff. Joan Smalls is killing it here with her braid and her blue lipstick and her everything ever. This is a perfect example of taking a risk and having it pay off.
Karolina Kurkova‘s dress is enormous and oh-so-beautiful. It positively commands attention, making it one of the only floral dresses I’ve ever seen to really do that (along with Lucy Liu‘s Carolina Herrera from the 2013 Golden Globes). Naturally, it’s by Marchesa.
Speaking of which, LOOK AT EMMY ROSSUM‘S DRESS FROM CAROLINA HERRERA. It’s bright and beautiful, not to mention perfect for spring.
As always, the train-up-the-stairs shot is striking.
Yes, Beyonce came through. Did you have any doubt in your mind? Of course you didn’t. This Givenchy design featured a low-cut neckline and that special Bey ability (Beybility?) to encapsulate the feeling of the evening. Also, how amazing is her beauty look plus that gorgeous veil? (Correct answer: the most amazing. The most amazing ever.)
This may not be a popular opinion, but I think Kristen Stewart looks so unbelievably cool in Chanel Couture here. I love this so very, very much.
Yes, obviously Anna Wintour looked amazing. This Chanel Couture dress is fantastic, as she knows better than anyone. Now the only questions that remain are these:
1) Who was the best dressed of the evening?
2) Did Mayhem the toddler beat them all out, anyway?
