It’s the awards show we have all been waiting for: the 86th Academy Awards. And it is just as elegant, glamorous, and gorgeous as we all expected it to be. As with every red carpet, there were of course a few misses, as we saw with the Worst Dressed list, but the best thing about the Oscars style-wise is that everyone puts on their A-game.
We initially noticed there was a ton of white, leading to my questioning if Macklemore might be doing another 50 weddings onstage. Naturally, though, more colors appeared as time went on and voila! A beautiful array of lovely, fun gowns and tuxes. So, sit back, relax and check out all the most wonderful looks of the evening featuring Maria Menounos, Lupita Nyong’o, Amy Adams and more!
First up, Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir. Yes, they look like over-the-top ice skaters on the red carpet, but that’s exactly what we expected, so they deserve a gold star for that (I think, at least). Julia called it with them being amazing and so amazing they are!
I MEAN LOOK AT HIS SHOES.
SO. DOWN. WITH KELLY OSBOURNE RIGHT HERE IN THIS BADGLEY MISCHKA.
Glenn Close goes Morticia Addams chic and nails it.
I usually don’t have strong feelings on stuff Maria Menounos wears, but this gown fits perfectly. It has excellent cap sleeves and a belt that tone it down and make it more casually elegant. (To be fair, anything all sparkly can’t be that casual, but a deep neckline is much more dramatic.)
Whoa, Lady Gaga looks great. Like, slightly-weird-great. But great. I feel like she toned it down knowing that tonight, it was the stars of another form of art’s time to shine.
Guh, I am just loving Emma Watson‘s look so much. Girl really understands silhouettes.
KAREN O GIRL WHAT IS UP?
Hell yes, Kevin Spacey. That blue is fantastic.
Anne’s dress is actually pretty fantastic. I feel like if Selena were still alive, she would wear this to the awards shows like crazy. What do you guys think?
Michael Strahan‘s look didn’t appeal to me at first, but I really love the texture and I think a red carpet host should stand out at least a bit in a fun way, so I wound up liking it a lot more by the end.
Now, for prom queen and king Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, Kerry Washington‘s Oscars maternity look, Jared Leto‘s epic hair, Lupita Nyong’o’s incredible Prada and so many more…
Whoa, Kerry Washington wearing an amethyst Jason Wu (his first ever Oscar gown, apparently!). SO GOOD.
Prom king and queen, Angelina and Brad!
We had a feeling we’d see you here, Amy Adams. Not keen on her hair, but we’ll talk about that later. The gown is simple, stunning and smooth.
Gabourey Sidibe‘s custom THEIA gown by Don O’Neill is such an incredible color and, just as with Maria Menounos, the belted waist looks beautiful. And previously, I’ve felt her hair and makeup were too frosty and overdone, but she just looks smokin’ here, especially with that glitter from the Dionea Orcini earrings.
YES, Sandra Bullock. Yes, yes, yes.
Constance Leto, Jared Leto and Shannon Leto win the “coolest relatives” award.
Obviously, Lupita wore something excellent: a pale blue Prada gown with a plunging neckline that drapes perfectly. As per usual, she accessorized perfectly, this time with Fred Leighton jewels.
Cate Blanchett is incapable of looking bad anytime, anywhere. This Armani is great, but it’s really the way she styled it so simply with her golden, silky waves that aren’t overdone, the nice touches of jewelry and the toned-down makeup.
