Most celebrities looked absolutely stunning at the 2015 Golden Globes. Can we just stop and take a minute to appreciate how beautiful Taylor Schilling and Amy Adams looked? There were lots of incredible red carpet looks, but there were sadly a few misses too. We commend these celebs for taking fashion risks, and experimenting with different silhouettes and colors, but the looks didn’t come together as well as we would have liked. Don’t worry, there are still lots more red carpets left in 2015 to get it right.
These are the celebrity outfits that fell a little flat at the Golden Globes:
This makes me sad. Rosamund Pike was attending for the first time, and she was nominated, so I wanted her to look flawless. Her Vera Wang dress was so close to being amazing, but it lost points for the fit. I have such a strong urge to tug the straps up, and pin the sides in. She still gets credit for rocking this backless dress after just having a baby.
I can kind of see where Zosia Mamet was going with this look, but it didn’t quite get there. The putty-colored top looks sad and the skirt looks like she is wearing her comforter around her waist. The fact her hair matches the top doesn’t get her any points.
Lana Del Ray looks like she is the lovechild of a mermaid and a 1970s prom queen. She normally works a retro vibe, but this turquoise fabric looks like a cheap polyester mall dress. The bouffant hair isn’t helping matters.
I’m all for trying different silhouettes besides the skin-tight dresses with two pairs of Spanx underneath, but Amanda Peet‘s flowy gown doesn’t look red carpet appropriate. It would be great to lounge at the beach, but not for an awards show. It looks like it is made out of that pleated maxi skirt lining fabric.
Laura Prepon‘s gown isn’t awful. It looks a little like a flamenco dress, but it is the styling that doesn’t hit the mark. Her dark hair, plus the dark dress, plus the dark smokey eye, and that heirloom necklace, are aging and a bit ho hum. If she went with a lighter eye and added a bold shoe, or bag it would have been much better.
Once you get passed Taryn Manning‘s ombre hair, you get to the dress, and uhh…well it basically looks like a shiny garbage bag. There no shape and it looks a messy. At least her roots match her dress.
I want to like Keira Knightley‘s Chanel dress, I really do. It’s unique, it’s charming, it’s quirky, it’s very her, but it just looks too much like a nightgown. And wait a minute, is that a butterfly corsage on her wrist? Oh no.
Melissa McCarthy rocked it at the 2015 People’s Choice Awards but wearing a white blouse on the red carpet is never easy. It is a fast track ticket to aging. The fit and general silhouette of the outfit are great, but I just want to loosen a button or two on the blouse and shorten the bow three inches.
Oh, Kristen Wiig. She’s known for her quirky cool approach to fashion, and normally she gets it right, but this wasn’t one of the times. If Zosia Mamet was wearing a comforter, Kristen was wearing a sheet. On a positive note, the color really brought out her tan.
