The Oscars are the biggest red carpet of the year, so celebrities bring out their very best looks for the occasion. Most celebs brought their style A-game this year. (See Lupita Nyong’o in that amazing pearl-embellished gown. Sigh.) However, there were some looks that just missed the mark. These outfits were so close to being amazing, but there was an accessory or a detail that just didn’t quite make sense, and they sadly messed up the rest of the flawless outfit.
These are the worst-dressed celebrities at the 2015 Oscars:
I have such an intense urge to fly out to Hollywood and rip that necklace off of Scarlett Johansson. She doesn’t need all that bling. If she just wore that dress with minimal accessories this probably would have ended up being one of the best looks of the night. I would be fine with that necklace in a cabaret act but not with this look.
Gina Rodriguez deserves credit for wearing a pure silk dress on the red carpet that didn’t look like wrinkled mess. However, this look is just slightly off. The neckline is a bit too high and the hair is just a bit too stiff, and it just looks a bit too much like a bridesmaids look.
I appreciate that Lorelei Linklater has her own unique style. I like the dress from the waist up, but the bottom is confusing. That sheer panel seems like it was just stuck on. Furthermore, is it too long or is that just the world’s shortest train?
I loved Margot Robbie‘s lipstick, but I am disappointed by the outfit. This dress was clearly just picked out to enhance the necklace. The look is all about the necklace, and not about Margot, and she should be the focus. Take away the necklace, and she is just wearing a black dress that is too long and not very special.
I loved Marion Cotillard‘s dress from the front but the back is confusing. Marion has worn similar Dior dresses with this sack-like back before, and I thought she pulled them off. However, the detail on this gown is too small. If you’re going to go for a dramatic cocoon back, you need to fully commit. This just makes her look like she has bad posture. And I don’t get the black bum band.
Well, will.i.am got his wish, he made it on the list. You don’t show up at the Oscars in a conductor’s hat and referee jersey and not expect to end up on the worst-dressed list. I love that he did it, but does it look appropriate for the event? Heck no.
Jared Leto deserves props for not wearing the same boring black tux that every other dude wears on the red carpet, but I wish he wouldn’t always look like he’s playing dress up. He looks like he goes to his costume box and picks out a colored suit and says, “This will get those Twitter users talking.” On a positive note, the hair is the perfect blend of beach-y waves and dirty rocker.
Hmmm…I’m not sure if Blanca Blanco‘s dress got really twisted in the car ride on the way to the Oscars, or whether it is just made of sticky fabric that constantly gets stuck to itself. I’m just happy that she can sort of walk in it.
