americanapparelwarningThere are a whole lot of reasons to be critical of American Apparel as a company. In the interest of saving time and getting straight to the point, I’m going to go ahead and ignore most of those right now to talk about the fact that they sell a number of products that are potentially dangerous. When I say dangerous, I don’t mean like “you’ll look like you’re asking for it and get raped” kind of danger because I’m not that kind of person. When I say dangerous I mean the cancer and lead poisoning kind if dangerous, like hazardous to your health.

Here are 5 American Apparel products that coming with a warning:

1) Clear School Bag– $58

Not only will this backpack tear if you put a loose pencil or a single book with a pointy corner in it, but it might give you lead poisoning. I don’t know about you, but I prefer my accessories contain zero traces of lead. The American Apparel website warns:

The following products contain chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. The items exceeded the limit for Lead and Phthalate within requirements in Prop 65 and cannot be sold in California retail stores or online store.”

2) Juju Maxi Jelly Sandals– $42

These jelly sandals may make you nostalgic for the ones you wore as a little kid in the 90s, but they also might give you cancer. Here’s the company’s warning about their juju sandals:

WARNING: This product may contain a chemical known to the state of California to cause cancer or birth defects or other reproductive harm.”

3) Clear Hat– $34

This cap would be a great accessory for someone who wants an extremely sweaty head and doesn’t care that they come with a warning because they’re already absorbing chemicals from those jellies:

WARNING: This product may contain a chemical known to the state of California to cause cancer or birth defects or other reproductive harm.”

4) Vinyl Mini Skirt– $58

This skirt looks really cute on Judy Jetson. Hopefully in the future, it won’t come with a cautionary cancer warning.

WARNING: This product may contain a chemical known to the state of California to cause cancer or birth defects or other reproductive harm.”

5) PVC Circle Skirt– $56

The best case scenario with this skirt is that you get a yeast infection and look like one of the women from the Blurred Lines video. The worst case scenario comes after that warning we’ve seen before:

WARNING: This product may contain a chemical known to the state of California to cause cancer or birth defects or other reproductive harm. “
