Just when we were starting to crave another big red carpet event, the 2016 American Music Awards happened. The AMAs may be the tamer version of the Grammys on the fashion front, but that doesn’t mean that celebrities played it safe. There were lots of standout looks. There were also a lot of celebs who pushed the boundaries. Of course there were some who pulled off the looks better than others. Then there were some outfits that we’re still not entirely sure what their deal was.
Take a look at the best and worst-dressed celebs at the 2016 American Music Awards:
1. Nina Dobrev
Nina Dobrev killed it at the AMAs. Her look was well thought out from head to toe. She picked up the silver from her jacket and shorts with the detail in the shoe. Of course we cannot forget about how she matched her sparkly braids with the rest of her look.
2. Chrissy Teigen
Chrissy Teigen rocked two of the highest slits on the red carpet. They were held together with nothing more than a safety pin on each side. It’s a tricky look to pull off, but Chrissy did. She posed on that red carpet like a pro. She also styled the dress beautifully with the gold jewelry and embellished heels.
3. Lady Gaga
We never now what look we’re going to get from Lady Gaga, but we’re sure glad we got this one. It’s simple yet it is mesmerizing. It’s sleek and chic. Plus, it is another side of Gaga we haven’t really seen before.
4. Gigi Hadid
Gigi Hadid is making us ready for summer, even though it is only November. This white lace dress keeps the off-the-shoulder trend alive. Plus, it is so romantic. Her tousled hair, bright lipstick and thin silver choker are the perfect complements to the dress.
5. Selena Gomez
Here’s your proof that you can rock a red gown on the red carpet and still stand out. Selena Gomez looked flawless. The cut of this dress is fantastic. You can see that it is made for her. The minimal, sporty styling also makes it feel effortless.
1. Kat Graham
The idea of this dress isn’t bad, but it isn’t quite there. The hem is too long for Kat, but the real issue is that is feels more like a beach cover-up than a gown. If it had some contrasting lining and a bit more structure, it could have been amazing.
2. Z La La
As a Halloween costume, this is amazing, but as a red carpet outfit, it doesn’t work. Even if you take away the wild spiky hair, you’re dealing with an armor-like bodice with pointed boobs. That skirt also doesn’t look like it is the most comfortable thing to move in.
Ciara is someone who always takes fashion risks and pulls them off, but this was a rare miss for her. The proportions of the skirt just don’t work. It’s too high in the front and too low in the back. It also looks a little too stuffed so it has a comforter vibe going on. Ciara deserves better.
4. Karlie Kloss
This is an example of when an overly complicated look takes away from the person wearing it. Karlie Kloss is a beautiful girl. She doesn’t need to be wearing two dresses at once. There are just too many elements going on here and they feel disjointed. If you got rid of the black skirt entirely and extended the blue, this actually would have been a fun look.
