We like to give MTV awards ceremonies shit for being a reliable bastion of the very worst kind of red carpet fashion (and, frequently, MTV awards ceremonies deliver) but another fantastic place for bad taste on the red carpet is any and every Euro film festival. Every year, Cannes, for example, hosts a sideshow of the worst clothing in the world–attracting paragons of bad taste from Bai Ling to Pheobe Price–and all the corresponding unnecessary patchwork, unending thigh slits and tiny hats.
So far, though, the Venice Film Festival has been a pretty sober affair; the world’s oldest international film festival has attracted fashionable stars like Diane Kruger, Dakota Fanning and Freida Pinto, but nothing on the red carpet has been truly terrible.
We have, however, come up with the most scandalous look by far:
This is Anna Safroncik, who, according to her Wiki page (and, critically, Google Translate) is “actress Ukrainian naturalized Italian,” which we take to mean a “Ukrainian actress who grew up in Italy.”
Anyway, Safroncik was at the Philomenia premiere, wearing Spring 2013 Alberta Ferretti, notable mainly for its astonishing plunge. Further gilding the lily, Safroncik’s underwear is also visible, on account of the dress’ sheerness.
We wouldn’t call this a disaster–the color is pretty beautiful, isn’t it?–but the very visible “illusion panel” kind of ruins things. That, and we could probably go five years without seeing an “illusion panel” again.
