Now that Memorial Day is here, you can break out your whites. Or have you been wearing them already all year?

Once upon a time the fashion world decided to drive into our heads that white clothing was only appropriate after Memorial Day and before Labor Day. If you were to wear anything white after Labor Day, you were committing a fashion faux pas that was so bad, you were liable to not only lose your friends, your love life, your job, your family and but probably your home, too. How else were you supposed to learn that there’s a time and a place for white attire and it’s not the middle of September!

Although we now have a thing called “winter whites,” there are still those who stick to the age old rule of fashion that whites are a summer-only situation. Are you one of these people or do you buck the system, define yourself as an outlaw and rock your whites anytime you fucking want?

Personally, I never wear white. Not because of any set rule or society’s dictation of what’s “in” and “out” fashion wise, but because I’m a walking disaster. The one white sweater I had was covered in stains after the first day I wore it. Do you realize how many things you walk into when you’re wearing white? Who walks into a freshly painted door or drops blueberry ice cream on their lap? Me — but only when I wear white. It’s really frustrating.
