ashley benson is my style icon idec

If you had the entire (primarily teenage) fanbase of Pretty Little Liars on a string, what would you do with that power? Probably photoshop all the promotional material to smithereens so that young women can feel even shittier about themselves, right?

While there’s no word on if it’s an official poster distributed by ABC Family or a piece of fan art, an image popped up online this week that features the four Liars– who are almost unrecognizable due to some seriously over-the-top airbrushing. Beautiful Troian Bellisario looks like a creepy mutant with devil eyes, for example, and Lucy Hale‘s mountains of hair look impossibly smooth.

Luckily, though, Ashley Benson isn’t letting it slide. The The 23-year-old star (who plays the part of an outspoken, gutsy high school senior who’s recovering from bulimia) posted the photo on her Instagram yesterday with a high-five worthy caption:

Saw this floating around… hope it’s not the poster. Our faces in this were from 4 years ago… and we all look ridiculous. Way too much photo shop. We all have flaws. No one looks like this. It’s not attractive.

What a champ. It warms my little fangirl heart to know that the spirit of Hanna Marin is present in the actress who brings her to life.

Oh, and this isn’t the first time Benson’s delivered a body-positive message to her young fans. She and costar Shay Mitchell held a live chat a while back, during which both actresses begged their audience to consider how much makeup and lighting contributes to their onscreen perfection. Like a badass, Benson stated,

Please eat. Food is good for you. Food is so important and it’s so good to be able to satisfy yourself and enjoy your life. Don’t stress out. Seriously, it’s not worth it. Please, just, never feel pressure to be very thin. I’ve said this a million times, and I’m gonna say it again– we are always photoshopped. In every picture that you see on a magazine, on a billboard. Always photoshopped.

While she doesn’t always exhibit flawless behavior (remember that time she took a pic of herself mocking Amanda Bynes— while Bynes was in treatment for mental illness?), the actress has had a handful of really positive moments. I’ll hold off on nominating her for the Nobel Peace Prize, but she definitely makes it into my Body-Positive Role Model Hall of Fame. Good on you, girl.
