If you don’t know about Ashley Graham by now, I’m not sure what you’re doing with your life. After designing her own lingerie line with Addition Elle and modeling it on the runway herself, she helped to launch the #PlusIsEqual campaign with Lane Bryant and, most recently, starred as the face of Forever 21‘s new plus size activewear line. The fast fashion giant isn’t done with her yet, though: they’ve finally launched their plus size swimwear line, and Ashley is at the forefront of the campaign once more.
The Forever 21 Swim 2016 line is full of one- and two-piece options in bold prints and colors, with tons of mesh paneling and cutouts, not unlike the GabiFresh for Swimsuitsforall 2016 line. While she doesn’t model every suit for the campaign, she does model the zipper-front, black-and-white paneled one-piece shown above and a cutout, high-waisted two piece that might just have to find a way into my summer wardrobe:
Despite the fact that many are calling for equality in plus- and straight-size swimwear designs (read: lower-cut bottoms, styles that aren’t always retro- or pinup-esque), I have to say that I’m a big fan of the cuts of these suits. Then again, I’m a high-waisted bikini and one-piece girl all the way, so maybe I’m just biased because it just meshes well with my own personal style.
While the rest of the line, as I mentioned before, isn’t modeled by Ashley, it’s definitely worth shopping if you’re in the market for new suits this summer. Since this is Forever 21 we’re talking about, the most expensive piece goes for $33, sizes range from XL to 3X, and you can mix and match bikini tops and bottoms. Here are some of my favorite suits from the collection:
This also comes in black, and the mesh paneling is more pronounced there, but I have to say I love the cutouts here. Sure, they might leave some funky tan lines, but that’s the price of fashion sometimes.
The sports bra-esque top provides full coverage for women with bigger breasts, and the cutouts on the bottoms keep them from looking too frumpy.
Guys, this is a one piece, and I’m obsessed with it. The cutouts wrap around the sides and just peek out in the front, and it makes for a pretty amazing overall shape.
