Awards season continued on the other side of the pond last night with the 2016 British Academy Film Awards, or BAFTAs to those in the know. Unlike the Golden Globes, SAG Awards or Critics’ Choice Awards, the celebs at the BAFTAs have the challenge of dealing with the London winter weather. California this is not. However, chilly temps didn’t make celebs abandon their fashion game. Most celebs brought it. Then there were a few whose outfits really wouldn’t have worked out regardless of what the weather was like.
Take a look at the best-dressed celebrities at the BAFTA Awards:
If Alicia Vikander isn’t your awards season fashion crush yet, this leather Louis Vuitton dress should be the piece to sway you. It’s tough yet feminine, and it does not look like every other dress on the red carpet. The dress would have been amazing without the embellishment, but it takes it to another level.
Cate Blanchett can do no wrong. This Alexander McQueen dress is perfect for her. It works in close-up shots and it works in head-to-toe ones. Most people would have gone with minimal jewelry when they had a dress with this much detail, but Cate opted for dangling earrings and a cuff, and pulled it off.
We have seen a lot of cutouts on the red carpet. Many people are wishing they would go away like naked dresses, but Emila Clarke put a fresh spin on the trend with these simple shoulder cutouts. This is a unique and very flattering neckline.
This was a perfect look for Rooney Mara. It suited her style perfectly, but it does not look like any other dress she has worn during awards season. Who would have thought that hexagons would make for such a good dress? We’re also on board for her trying to bring back the headband.
Hats off to Dakota Johnson for not caring about the cold weather and wearing this slip dress on the red carpet. She is probably frozen to the bone, but she looks amazing. It’s an effortless look. The frills add just the right amount of romance to it.
A lot of the times when celebs wear statement jewelry on the red carpet it feels contrived or they put all the focus on the piece instead of themselves. Saoirse Ronan shows everyone how it’s done. She paired her multicolored necklace with a printed dress. The resulting look is young and fun. Plus, the colors of the dress and necklace complement each other perfectly.

First of all, Stefanie Powers looks amazing for 73. She literally looks 20 years younger than she is. The issue here is that the feathers and embellished blue dress do not work together. Both on their own would be fine, but not together.
Another red carpet, another naked dress. It’s not an awful look, but it isn’t something exciting. The color of the lace detail is flattering, but the flounce on the bottom cuts her in half.
3. Rebel Wilson
Rebel Wilson seems like one of the most fun people so what is she doing on the red carpet in a somber black suit? A little silver trim isn’t enough for her. It’s understandable if she wanted not to overshadow some of the Best Actress nominees, but she still could have picked a more impactful look.
Bel Powley’s multicolored dress is definitely fun. However, it just doesn’t come together with the metallic fabric, the chevron print on the skirt, the horizontal stripes on the bodice and the embellishment on the straps. If she got rid of the pleated skirt and stuck with the horizontal stripes all the way down, the look would have still turned heads, but there would have been less going on.
