If you’ve been able to pull yourself away from the trainwreck that is the most recent edition of Kanye West vs. Taylor Swift, you might have taken some time out to look through the looks from the Yeezy Season 3 show that went down last night at Madison Square Garden. You didn’t ask for my opinion, but I feel no shame in telling you that I don’t believe that anything Kanye showed last night is even fashion. It’s barely even glorified spandex. You’d think that a show that gave the models such strict rules to follow would at least put out good clothes, but then again, I think that might be asking too much of the world.
But the fashion I’m really talking about wasn’t onstage. Rather, it was in the audience, on none other than the Kardashian/Jenner clan. Take a look:
Are you blind from Kim’s horrible blonde wig? No? Good, then you can read the caption that accompanied the photo:
“YEEZY X BALMAIN The fam all dressed in exclusive Balmain for Yeezy pieces! Kanye flew to Paris a week ago and @olivier_rousteing made it happen in 5 days!!!”
I can honestly imagine Kanye rolling on into Rousteing’s studio and being like, “Listen, I’ma let you finish, but you need to literally drop your entire life for five days and do whatever I tell you because I’m Kanye West and I’m God and also if you don’t I’ll go on a really weird and punctuation-free Twitter rant about you.” Like, right? That’s probably exactly how that conversation went down.
All of that said, if this photo is to be believed, could it really be that Balmain‘s next collaboration will be with none other than Yeezy himself? I mean, I can’t really imagine that there’s much of a market out there for crystal, beaded, overly-furry, and almost completely-sheer clothes, but then again I consider it a big deal if I wear a crop top out in public, so what do I know?
Rousteing’s relationship with the family is long-established. He’s featured Kim Kardashian, Kanye, Kendall Jenner, and Kylie Jenner is various ad campaigns, and it seems safe to say that he’s a family friend. But when I think about legitimate fashion houses, Balmain and Yeezy don’t exactly fall into the same category. Balmain puts out seriously beautiful pieces, well worth the thousands of dollars they cost; Yeezy paints a cheap-looking bodysuit orange, slaps on a $500 price tag, and calls it style. They’re not even in the same galaxy.
Unfortunately, though, if this collaboration really does transpire, I have no doubt that it’ll sell out in seconds. After all, that’s what happens when anything associated with the Kardashians and/or Jenners comes out, as we’ve learned from Kylie’s Lip Kits. I’m just hoping that Rousteing comes to his senses before he takes that leap.
