For what is traditionally the most exciting red carpet of the year, the 2015 Grammys left much to be desired. Namely, color, excitement, originality…and other such elements that are generally considered positive attributes on the red carpet. Thankfully, some of our favorite fashionable divas brought the heat in a sea of boring black dresses and truly WTF moments.
Black sparkles and sheer fabric absolutely dominated the red carpet this year, but just three such garments stole the show. (No, Beyonce was not one of them.) Menswear continues to be a major trend this awards season, with stars like Anna Kendrick and Sia taking up the mantle. Let’s take a look at the Grammy red carpet’s saving graces this year.
Jessie J in Ralph & Russo
Jessie J was one of the first big-time performers to arrive on the carpet, and she arrived. This gorgeous gown is classy, sexy, couture, flattering, fun, and dramatic all at once. Pure Grammy perfection.
Gwen Stefani in Atelier Versace
I audibly gasped with Gwen stepped up to chat with Ryan Seacrest in the mother of all black jumpsuits. “Watching them create this — they literally sewed this thing by hand and I get to wear it,” she rushed. “It’s amazing, it’s artwork.” Couldn’t have said it better than that.
Nicki Minaj in Tom Ford
What are the Grammys for if not to show a little cleavage? Last night there was lots of questionable cleavable—Lady Gaga, Madonna, and Kim Kardashian among them—but Nicki Minaj did it right in this fabulous Tom Ford gown.
Taylor Swift in Ellie Saab
All hail Taylor Swift for bringing some color to the carpet! And not just any color, a stunning vibrant ombre turquoise complemented by those amazing pink heels. Can I even talk about the detail? The innovative short-long style? I can’t. I can’t.
Jhene Aiko in Alberta Ferreti
Danielle Haim in Stella McCartney
Danielle Haim just distinguished herself as the only Haim sister whose name I will remember with this flawless Stella McCartney look.
