I kind of have a TV problem — I watch entirely too much of it. Luckily, there’s some benefit to watching a copious amount of television, and that’s all of the fashion and style inspiration that I get from some of my favorite TV characters. I have serious envy over the wardrobe’s of the six fictional characters below, each with their own unique and personal style (which has been carefully cultivated by the show’s wardrobe department and stylists). Here are the characters whose closets I would most want to raid if given the option:
Spencer Hastings and Hanna Marin, Pretty Little Liars
Emily’s hot body is constantly covered up in sweats and Aria once wore an actual spider around her neck, so I’m skipping those two little liars and placing Spencer and Hanna on my wardrobe-lusting list. Spencer nails the preppy look without looking like her mother dressed her for the first day of kindergarden and probably always has a tailored skirt suit on hand for an impromptu job interview. She also wears a lot of plaid. Even though she’s the only one of the liars to spend any time as an admitted patient of a mental institution, her wardrobe really makes it seem like she always has her shit together.
Hanna, on the other hand, is the girl whose clothes I would want to steal for a night out — her wardrobe is all about sparkles, low-cut tops, cut-outs, and neon colors and somehow she never looks all that tacky. (Inappropriate for the occasion, but rarely ever tacky for tacky’s sake.)
Olivia Pope, Scandal
I imagine this is how Spencer Hastings will dress when she’s all grown up and running her own consulting firm. Olivia Pope may make disastrous relationship decisions but this woman has never missed a beat in the fashion department. How a woman can drink so much red wine and never spill a drop on her perfect, perfect white wardrobe is a mystery to me.
Olivia Pope’s outerwear is basically a character in itself on Scandal.
Victoria Grayson, Revenge
Victoria Grayson is basically the Wicked Witch of the Hamptons but I would totally befriend her if it meant I got to borrow one of her amazing bodycon dresses. This woman conducts everything in a bodycon dress. Global business takeovers. Snide remarks to her husband. The slapping of her loved ones. Murders.
Yeah so she’s kind of the worst but tell me you wouldn’t just dieeeee over access to her closet. Like this grey/lace number below. Unconventional but so pretty. Perfect for an ice queen like Victoria.
Misty Day, American Horror Story: Coven
Misty Day may be a swamp queen, but let’s face it: she totally gets her clothes at Urban Outfitters and Free People. Not a lot of people can commit full-time to the boho chic look, and Misty makes it look completely effortless.
(Young) Carrie Bradshaw, The Carrie Diaries
It’s now been a two whole weeks since I started binge-watching this show and I totally endorse everything about this adorable teen drama. Carrie Bradshaw is way cooler at 17 than she ever was at 30-something. She goes to Bret Easton Ellis’ parties! She hangs out with sexy playwrights! She interns under Andy Warhol at Interview Magazine! It’s such great 80s’ fun and I’m kind of obsessed with it. Plus, ALL OF CARRIE’S CLOTHES.
While Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie often wore things that were pretty out there (things that I would never be caught dead in, basically) I think I would wear every single one of baby Bradshaw’s brightly colored frocks and patterned sweaters. What can I say — I like colors. And animal print. And colored animal print.
