It seems like that there is a red carpet event every week. There are the massive awards seasons red carpets like the Emmys, Oscars and Golden Globes, but then there are the smaller-but-still-important events like the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards or the British Fashion Awards. We also cannot forget about film premieres. Then there is the Met Gala, aka the most stylish night of the year. We’re not complaining about the number of red carpets because it gives us that many more opportunities for amazing red carpet moments. On the flip side, the potential increases for someone to turn up in a bizarre outfit.
There were so many different red carpet looks to choose from, but we have managed to narrow it down to our best and worst red carpet fashion moments of 2015. Take a look at our selections:
Jillian Lucas: Lupita Nyong’o at the OscarsLupita Nyong’o always graces best-dressed lists so it is easy to see why Jillian picked her. Se says, “The all-over pearl embellished white Calvin Klein dress gave me LIFE. Lupita always kills it on the red carpet but the shape and color of this dress was perfect for her. I loved it so much.”
Do not be surprised that Lupita’s name has already come up twice. Sara says, “Is it too much to say that I think anything Lupita Nyong’o did was a best red carpet moment? But if I had to get specific, I’d say my best are Lupita at the European Star Wars premiere, Sarah Hyland at the Emmys, Kate Winslet at TIFF, and Lady Gaga at the Oscars Vanity Fair after party.”
There were so many great looks, it is hard for me to narrow it down to just one, so I chose two. One of the most memorable was Lily James in that embroidered Ellie Saab gown at the Cinderella premiere. It referenced the movie, but it was still very high fashion. Plus, it had pockets! It was a real moment for her.
My second choice was Emma Stone at the SAG Awards. People may not think that the SAGs have as much fashion as other awards season red carpets, but this looked proved them all wrong. It was also the start of the blazer-cum-dress silhouettes.
Kristyn Filip: Emma Stone at the Golden Globes
Emma Stone set the bar very high for the year in January, and Kristyn still remembers the look almost 12 months later. She explains, “I have two picks for favorite red carpet moment of the year. My first is Emma Stone in a Lanvin jumpsuit at the Golden Globe Awards in January. The look was unexpected and yet insanely chic—I just loved it.”
Kristyn Filip: John Boyega at the Stars Wars: The Force Awakens LA PremiereFor her second pick, Kristyn chose a dude, and a very recent look. She says, “My second pick is John Boyega at the LA premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in December. He wore a beautiful custom Versace eggplant tuxedo, and I think it was the best any man has ever looked on the red carpet.” Plus, can we talk about the one glove thing?
Rihanna earned top marks from Liz this year. She explains, “[My pick is] Rihanna in Guo Pei, followed closely by Rihanna at the Grammys in Giambattista Valli.”
Kelsey was actually disappointed with the fashion this year, but she still has a few favorites. She says, “Let’s just admit it—the 2015 awards season featured one disappointing red carpet after another. I almost hate to say this but Kim Kardashian‘s gold Jean Paul Gaultier robe at the Grammys was one of my favorites because unlike most of what we saw, it was a memorable statement while still looking great on her. I also still dream about Taylor Swift‘s white sparkly jumpsuit at the Billboards.”

Jillian Lucas: Pretty much Miley Cyrus at everythingMiley Cyrus has worn a lot of crazy things this year, that have let many of us, including Jillian, scratching their heads. She says, “Whether it was the chandelier covering her vag at the VMA’s, the weird cutout dress from the Met Gala or the crazy all-glitter suit. Though, her Grammy’s look wasn’t too bad.”
You know that if an outfit gets turned into a meme, it is going to be a strong contender for worst-dressed. Sara had a few choices for worst of the year. She states, “My worst are Sarah Jessica Parker at the Met Gala, Serayah at the VMAs, Harry Styles at the AMAs, and anything Z LaLa wore.” For proof, see below.
I was going to give the same answer as Jillian, but then I remembered Z La La at the MTV Video Music Awards. If you look like the lovechild of a conehead and a 1980’s cabaret singer, it is not a good thing. From head-to-toe, this look was wrong.
Kristyn Filip: Miley Cyrus at the MTV Video Music AwardsThe MTV Video Music Awards were not the best places for stellar fashion this year. Kristyn also picked Miley Cyrus‘s outfit from the event. She states, “I hate to have to single someone out for the ‘worst’ red carpet moment of the year, so I’ll just say that I wasn’t a big fan of anything Miley Cyrus wore at this year’s Video Music Awards in August. I think she’s trying way too hard to shock people, and it’s so tiring.”
