bethenny-frankelThat up there is Bethenny Frankel, possibly the world’s savviest reality TV star. She took a thankless role as the poor, single best friend on The Real Housewives of New York to promote interest in her line of premixed, slightly lower calorie cocktails; snarked her way into the coveted “everybody’s favorite character” status; sold her brand for $100 million; had a baby; and got herself some other TV shows, just for fun. History would indicate that Frankel is a smart, media-savvy lady, so there must be a good reason for the photo she just put on Instagram. But I cannot even begin to conceive of what that reason might be, because Frankel just Instagrammed a photo of herself dressed up like either a 4-year-old or the worst hipster ever.

“This is my daughter’s nightgown and PJ shorts. Think we’re ready to start sharing clothes yet?” she asked.

This is exactly the sort of thing my mother would think was hilarious, and it is, in a really dorky, “mom joke” kind of way. I don’t know whether to laugh or to roll my eyes like a 12-year-old and say, “Oh my god, mom!” (I must make a point to hide all my own kids’ clothes, lest grandma start taking her own hilarious toddler clothes selfies.)

Of course the Internet is awful, which means Frankel’s followers took to the comments to berate her for being too skinny.

“I noticed a long time ago that you were obviously not keeping your body healthy,” one helpful commenter opined, because the best way to assess someone’s health is to have non-medical professionals look at her Instagram photos. Others were just jerks about it.

While we didn’t really need our daily confirmation that the Internet is the worst, it’s good to see that Frankel is getting a head start on the wacky mom jokes that will one day embarrass the heck out of young Bryn. Today she’s wearing her daughter’s Hello Kitty pajamas and posting the pictures on the Internet. Tomorrow: Mom dancing.
