Oh dear. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. It appears I spoke entirely too soon regarding Blake Lively and my anticipation of what wonderful thing she wears next, given how stunning her Gucci Premiere look was just yesterday. (It even featured our new favorite summer braid style summer, for goodness’ sake.) But today, Blake went with a much more, eh, peculiar look at the Mr. Turner premiere on the second day of the 67th Cannes Film Festival. The look is by Chanel from its Spring 2014 Couture Collection. And you know what that means, right?
The cinched waist! Indeed, it is once again time to see a bizarre cinched waist just like the ones Rihanna and Keira Knightley confused us in a couple months ago. To be fair, Dakota Fanning killed it in a similar look just the other day at the Chanel Cruise 2014/2015 photo call, but that one was made out of feathers and in deep iridescent shade so it looked all sorts of wonderful, as it broke up the peculiar geometric silhouette of the dress. But I am just not digging Blake’s here.
For starters, it’s an iridescent, sequined ankle-length gown with a pale green shawl draped along her forearms–that’s a whole lot of light, shiny and sparkly to look at all at once. A lot. Oh, and did I mention she wore it with a pair of Sophia Webster Etta pink pumps that had a sparkly freaking heel and Lorraine Schwartz jewels? Well, she did. So. Much. Sparkle Pony.
Anyway, I do love her hair and makeup, so that was a bright spot to this look (or not-too-bright, but in a positive way). The pale pink blush and pink lipstick work well together to make her look ethereal, while the silky loose waves in her hair keep it fresh.
Overall I do not think this is her best look–it’s already her worst at Cannes, sort of, though not the worst of the worst–but I am still looking forward to seeing what she does over the next week or so. If anything, it should be entertaining. Perhaps she’ll pull a Julianne Moore and do some no-bra leather look.
