When I think about accessible red carpet fashion, Carrie Underwood is pretty high on the list of celebrities who pick pretty gowns without looking too wildly over the top. Last night, she proved this once again by wearing a lovely dress for the 13th Annual Samsung Hope For Children Gala in New York City on Tuesday night.
The look features a Rubin Singer Fall 2014 chevron-printed cocktail dress that perfectly encapsulates a carefree-while-still-fancy style. Its asymmetrical neckline keeps the top portion from being too 1950s Betty Draper while the print is fresh, fun, and nicely split up via a black triangle at her waist, giving her a great hourglass silhouette. If you happen to be searching for the perfect look to wear to a nighttime wedding, cocktail party, important dinner or other semi-dressed up event, Carrie’s works great for any of those occasions. Of course, if you’re like me and can’t exactly afford the designer price tag, here how you can get this style without spending big bucks.
Getting a replica of this dress is difficult since it’s such a unique design, but acquiring a similar print and structure is actually pretty easy! Here are a few options:
For any of these, you can add a wide black belt to up the hourglass silhouette effect, like this one from Bluefly:
While Carrie’s Henri Lepore ‘Carmela’ T-strap black pumps are lovely, they also will run you $1095. This T-bar style by Charles & Keith is only $63 and offers the same cute look while also giving you a little lift.
Hair & Makeup
Carrie has a beautifully silk hairstyle, so if you’re looking to do the same, make sure your hair is conditioned and moisturized. Use a heat protective spray on your hair, then part your hair to the side and loosely wrap large sections around a wide-barrel curling iron. Finger comb the curls out so they become waves, then spritz a bit of shine spray overtop.
Makeup-wise, Carrie’s wearing a fresh, clean look. To get one like hers, you should apply a mattifying primer Smashbox Photo Finish, then use concealer only wear you need it. Then, take a peachy-pink cream rouge like Make Up For Ever HD Blush in 215 and apply it to the apples of your cheeks, then blend. Add a little nude lipgloss such as Napoleon Perdis Luminous Lip Veil in Pretty In Peach to your mouth. For your lids, apply a pale golden taupe shade on the tops, like Mally Beauty Evercolor Shadow Stick in Firework and add two coats of your favorite black mascara to your lashes. Dust a bit of Make Up For Ever HD Pressed Powder all over your face with a kabuki brush to seal it all on.
Those Jacob & Co. chandelier earrings are gorgeous with this outfit. Get similar sparkle with these Kenneth Cole New York “Color Splash” Circle Link Chandelier Earrings that are just $28!
