Cate Blanchett is an extremely talented, intelligent woman.

..The Gloss, however, is a fashion and beauty site, which means we have to focus on a very specific aspect of Blanchett’s career–primarily, what she wears on the red carpet. Occasionally, we’re a little bummed out that we only ever talk about Blanchett through the lens of what she wears, but… that’s the way it goes.

Which is to say, one of the most exciting things about Blanchett (non-talent/intellect division), is that she’s willing to take risks. She has worn some of the greatest red carpet looks of all time… but taking risks is dangerous. And sometimes this happens. And sometimes this. And sometimes this:

Now, since this is couture, there’s always going to be mindless praise of the dress as “a work of art” or some such (see also: all discussion of the Met’s Alexander McQueen exhibit), but the fact of the matter is this dress is a weird, sagging halter with a glittery cape component and an embellished stomach growth for added… stuff.
