If you were looking for sequins this week for some reason, I am sorry but there are no sequins left. Cate Blanchett wanted some sequins, and she now owns all the sequins in the world.
Cate Blanchett went to the third annual AACTA Awards last night in Sydney, and she brought with her this amazingly shiny Givenchy gown. We were pretty stunned by the extreme shininess, and the edginess of the look. We know Blanchett can do edgy with aplomb, but lately she’s been downright demure on the red carpet. (Well, except that time her demure dress turned out to be cut all the way down to her butt.) But this time she threw out all the lace and long sleeves in exchange for a brown and gold sequined and pleated dress with a deeply plunging neckline and leather accents. She looks like a sexy futuristic robot in a sci-fi movie, and we mean that as a complete compliment.
She’s also rocking some bedhead that would make Heather Locklear jealous. (This is pretty much how I want my hair and makeup to look all the time.)
Blanchett wisely opted to forgo necklaces and bracelets, which would have made her look like she was in a Roman period drama, and just accessorized with a pair of silver earrings and gold sandals. Normally we don’t go in for the “less is more” school of thought, but when one is wearing all the sequins in the known world, jewelry is superfluous.
If we could steal the wardrobe of any celebrity, it would probably be Cate Blanchett. The woman has undeniable style.
