If I didn’t realize that Christian Cota was the fashion industry’s next big thing before I attended his presentation at the Metropolitan Pavilion during Fashion Week, I do now.
Vogue editor Anna Wintour’s inaugural visit to see Cota’s collection sealed his designer-to-watch status. The models even donned blonde bobbed wigs that resembled Wintour’s trademark hairstyle.
The collection notes describe Cota’s inspiration from Cubism. “Perspectives multiplied, and collapsed. Organic forms disassembled, and puzzled back together angle by angle. Representation of the thing itself replaced by representation of the endless way of seeing it. Look again and again.”
The buzz-worthy young designer’s Fall/Winter 2010 collection featured lean silhouettes embellished by jagged draping, metallic sheen, and geometric techniques.
