And it’s done. After the news of his bigoted assault and the leak of a damning video of the designer claiming to “[love] Hitler,” the house of Dior began its official procedure to dismiss creative director John Galliano… just days after announcing its plans to suspend him pending the investigation. It would appear the video was all too much.
The label released a brief statement made by its president and chief executive officer, Sidney Toledano, denouncing the designer’s ‘odious behaviour.’ It states:
‘I condemn most firmly the statements made by John Galliano which are total contradiction with the essential values that have always been defended by the House of Christian Dior.’
This is a sad day for Galliano fans; both to see him leave Christian Dior–where his name practically became synonymous with haute couture–and also to discover this truly ugly aspect of his character.
