Let me start this by saying that last night, in Brooklyn, it was 3 degrees. Three degrees.

I don’t think I’m alone in saying that I am not ready for the cold weather. Even though it’s January. Even though it’s most certainly winter. The mild temps that we were hit with during December furthered my delusion of avoiding the coldness. That delusion has been dissolved as I walked to the subway this morning during a windchill of 10 degrees. This is not a drill, people. The cold is upon us and we can wear crop tops and sandals all we want, but the freeze is inevitable and we must do something. Break out your favorite layers all you must, but your best defense against the biting chill of mid-January weather is a super chunky knit sweater and your favorite winter coat. Trust me on this one.

Here are 10 of the chunkiest knits out there, so get to steppin’.

Chunky Sweater With High Neck In Boucle (ASOS, $27)

Oversized Mohair Sweater (Zara, $60)

5646110050_6_1_1Not only is it oversized, it’s also plaid. This is a win-win in my book.

T By Alexander Wang Striped Chunky-Knit Cotton Sweater (The Outnet, $157.50)

The good thing about this one is that it’s cotton, so if you overheat easily, this will keep you warm and cool at the same time.

_11604243Ah, the classic fisherman’s sweater. Just looking at this sweater makes me feel warm.

Waffle Knit Cuffed Sweater (Forever 21, $22.90)

00179773-04This whole outfit screams “off-duty model” to me. The necktie, the chunky sweater and the ripped jeans. All this needs is a leather moto jacket and you’re set.

Striped Sweater (Zara, $30)

6049100105_2_2_1A lot of the chunkier knits have turtlenecks, which I’m not that huge a fan of. But this one has a slouchier structure which doesn’t make me feel like I’m being strangled by my sweater.

Cable Crew Sweater (Abercrombie, $160)

anf_103111_01_model1Another classic shape by an unexpected brand. This Abercrombie sweater is perfect to pair over a thin button down and a great pair of jeans.

Melissa McCarthy Seven7 Dip Dye Fuzzy Cardigan (Nordstrom, $129)

A lot of times, chunky cardigans just look like something your grandpa would wear. This is not that. The dip dye makes it modern and once again, so freakin’ fuzzy.

Nu New York Mock Neck Chunky Sweater (Shoptiques, $45)
