diana vreeland anna wintour andre leon talley

Anna Wintour and Andre Leon Talley hate Diana Vreeland, the color red, and “whimsy.”

Hah! No. Probably not. Maybe not? But Vogue did decline to have anything to do with the documentary Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has To Travel which is about famed Vogue editrix Diana Vreeland (a woman so eccentric she had her maid iron her money every morning).

Apparently there were particular issues when Andre Leon Talley, who worked for Diana Vreeland early in his career, was asked to appear in the film. The Hollywood Reporter spoke to the film director Lisa Immordino Vreeland, who said:

“He requested a well-known fashion scholar interview him. So I didn’t beg him.” When Talley requested a screener after the movie played Tribeca, “we let him know he could buy a ticket like everybody else.”

I hope he bought that ticket with a crisply ironed $20 bill.

I can see why Anna Wintour might decline to be in such a documentary – she might not want to be compared with her predecessor, she probably has to keep a very close eye on her public appearances forever after The Devil Wears Prada, etc. – but no Andre Leon Talley? Seriously? Andre Leon Talley seems so eccentric in his own right that I would think that he would be thrilled to be in a Diana Vreeland documentary.
