We can normally guess what the new fashion ad campaigns will be like. They will feature amazing and very expensive clothes, a pretty young model or two, and some moody lighting. Sometimes they will surprise us with something different, but the majority of the time, we can bet on some version of those things. That’s why we were so pleased to see the photos of Dolce & Gabbana‘s new advertising campaign. Dolce & Gabbana posted a few photos of their summer 2015 campaign on Instagram and they feature a trio of elderly ladies looking fabulous.
Unlike a lot of fashion houses, Dolce & Gabbana’s advertisements usually feature some sort of scene as opposed to models standing around looking glamorous on a minimalist set. The scenes often feature people of different ages but the focus point isn’t solely on them, it’s on the entire image. In their latest campaign, one of the shots is a close-up of three old ladies looking like they’re mid-conversation. They’re holding elaborate bags and wearing ornate headpieces, and it’s stunning. What’s even better is that the photo hasn’t been heavily photoshopped. It shows their age, and their beauty. On Instagram, the image was captioned:
“The laughter of a woman of any age is synonymous of pure beauty.”
The other campaign images that have been released “show the Spanish influence on Sicilian traditions.” They are the more traditional Dolce & Gabbana scenes with the different characters being played by models, but the shot of the older ladies is by far the most captivating.
Dolce & Gabbana deserve props for making the seniors the focus and not another 20-year-old model. Hopefully there will be more images like the one of the three ladies and other fashion houses will be inspired to try something different with their advertising campaigns too.
