So Alessandra Ambrosio headlined an editorial for Numero Tokyo called “Start Me Up,” shot by Matthias Vriens-McGrath. We’ve been seeing a lot of the more mainstream girls–especially the Angels–moving into comparatively avant-garde editorial and runway work, like Miranda Kerr for Jil Sander.

I’m not convinced this is always a terrific idea, as it doesn’t make much sense for women who are conventionally beautiful to try contorting and twisting like typical fashion mannequins (with the exception of that subversive and unusual choice of Adriana Lima for Givenchy).

Then again, “Start Me Up” seems to be about sex and little else, so maybe it works here, though I can’t help but think Lara Stone or Karlie Kloss would have made things a little more interesting.
