The casting directors for Maleficent didn’t have to look through Elle Fanning’s impressive film credits (the girl was acting at 3!) or have her do a screen test, to figure out if she was right for the part of Aurora. All they had to do was take a look at some of her red carpet outfits, to know that she is one shiny gold crown away from being a proper princess. Normally, if I say someone dresses like a princess, that probably isn’t be a good thing–unless of course, I am talking about Kate Middleton‘s royal wardrobe. With Elle Fanning, I mean it in the most complimentary way possible. After all, she is 16, and it’s refreshing to see someone dress young and fun, without taking the express train to tits out, twerking townahem Miley Cryus.

Here are some of Elle’s most magical red carpet looks that would make any Disney princess jealous:

 1. 18th Annual Critics Choice Movie AwardsElle Fanning Floral Dress 18th Annual Critics' Choice Movie Awards

Never mind the flowery embroidered Chanel dress, we will get to that in a moment. What I love about Elle, is that she seems like such as happy, positive person despite starring in some heavy movies (Remember I Am Sam or Somewhere?). Just look at that toothy grin–she’s probably excited to be wearing an amazing designer dress that’s a cross between Brave and Sleeping Beauty, and is able to emote it, unlike other duckfaced celebrities who would never show it.

2.  2011 Women In Film Crystal + Lucy Awards

Elle is blonde and she’s wearing blue, so of course it would be easy to compare her to Cinderella (which you can totally see). Instead, I’m going to bring up the point that she is at a women in film awards event. She is 16 now and would have been 13 at the time. That is the sort of thing we should look for in our princess–yes, more so than a pretty lace and tulle dress.

3. 17th Annual Critics Choice AwardsElle Fanning Floral Dress 17th Annual Critic's Choice Movie Awards

This mint floral dress would totally make Princess And The Frog’s Tiana jealous. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think her gown was Rodarte too. Tiana’s still awesome though.

4. Maleficent Private Reception At Kensington Palace

Elle Fanning Maleficent private reception at Kensington PalaceOf course Elle was going to go full-out princess for a Maleficent event in London–she plays a princess in the film, so I’m pretty sure it’s in the contract you have to look like one at all promotional events.

5. Somewhere PremiereElle Fanning Black Dress Somewhere Premiere

Forget about Cinderella‘s glass slipper, if I were to become a princess (one can always hope) these would be my shoe of choice. I never really understood what was so great about shoes made of glass in the first place–Louboutins they were not.

6. 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards Elle Fanning 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards held at the JW Marriott

Don’t ever think that princesses can only wear pink or purple and sometimes blue. If you recall, Beauty And The Beast‘s Belle wore a gold dress, similar to Elle’s bronze Lanvin gown. Plus, they both have a thing for hair accessories.

7. We Bought A Zoo PremiereElle Fanning White Lace Dress New York premiere We Bought a Zoo

Has there really not been a Disney princess who wore white–other than to get married off to some princess charming? There’s a new idea for you producers. And maybe while you’re thinking of fresh concepts, you could show diversity and take note of people like Elle, she doesn’t just sit in a castle and she still makes an awesome princess (cynical, me? no)

8. British Independent Film AwardsElle Fanning Pink Dress British Independent Film Awards

Let’s get one thing straight: you don’t have to live in a kingdom far, far away if you want to wear a big, poufy, pink flower Oscar de la Renta dress. This gown is so magical it would defintely make Rapunzel from Tangled  jealous.

9. 15th Annual Hollywood Film Awards Gala Elle Fanning 15th Annual Hollywood Film Awards Gala Presented By Starz

This embroidered Valentino dress reminds me of the one Merida from Brave wore and the halo braid would make both Anna and Queen Elsa from Frozen envious. If you have no idea who I’m talking about, and you only know Ariel and Snow White, it’s time to brush up on your princess IQ. Start by immediately memorizing all the words to ‘Let It Go.’

10. Paris Fashion Week

This floral print long vest and dress combo remind me of something Mulan would wear. Karl Lagerfeld must have had it on the TV when he designed this Chanel outfit. Plus, those shoes look like they are made to kick some serious butt–Dakota Fanning better not make Elle angry.
