For the red carpet, celebrities are constantly wearing metallics, black and white, and jewel tones. But in my opinion, one of the most underrated shades for special events has always been yellow. Yellow, yellow, yellow. And yesterday, Emma Stone reminded the whole world of that by donning the perfect shade of bright yellow for The Amazing Spider-Man 2‘s world premiere in London on Thursday.
Sometimes, when I write a post about an outfit on the red carpet, it can be difficult to figure out what to say besides, “Hey, this person wore this outfit, I liked/didn’t like it, and here’s why.” In this case, though, I could probably go on for about 10 paragraphs. So, let’s start with the dress itself.
It’s totally stunning. This custom Atalier Versace design is fun, bright and perfectly befits her skin tone (although I firmly believe yellow works on just about anybody). The wide, fitted waistband looks lovely–rather than jarring, like some nipped-in waists–because of how beautifully the rest of the dress flows all the way down to the floor. RCFA points out that the shoulders are slightly padded, which I think makes this one of the first times I’ve ever been into that.
Oh, and the back is gorgeous.
I’m also obsessed with her makeup, hair and jewelry. This David Webb 18k yellow gold necklace works great with the look, while her deep red hair was curled into perfect rolls for an added dose of old Hollywood glamour. And the bright fuschia lipstick? Yes, please.
And finally, let’s move onto how adorable she and Andrew Garfield are.
So celebrities, I’m just saying: take a page out of Emma’s book (as well as Lena Dunham in that amazing Zac Posen gown from the 2014 Golden Globes) and wear yellow all the time. Seriously, that golden dress Kate Hudson wore for How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days is the only good thing about that movie, so clearly, it will be a memorable choice.
