The 2016 Fashion Awards (formerly the British Fashion Awards) were held last night. The looks definitely lived up to the award show’s name. The red carpet was filled with one head-turning look after another. One surprising thing about the event was the number of black dresses on the red carpet. LBDs may be a classic, but celebrities made them into their own and proved black can be anything but boring. If you’re looking for some color, there were a number of pretty pastel looks too. And if you’re looking for some head-scratching looks, there were some of those as well.
Check out the best and worst-dressed celebrities at the 2016 Fashion Awards:
1. Lady Gaga
This is awards season Lady Gaga back and in full force. As much as we love Gaga’s wild outfits, no one can compete with her when she goes for a glamorous look. She worked the train on this sleek gown like it was nobody’s business.
2. Alexa Chung
Alexa Chung ditched the dress for these pastel yellow separates and we’re so glad she did. This is so chic yet it’s also whimsical thanks to the feather trim and floral embroidery. As much as we love Alexa’s signature bedhead, the retro waves and red lipstick made this look even better.
3. Karlie Kloss
Karlie Kloss’s gown was a lesson in restraint so all you see is the flawless details. The metallic belt with side cutouts is an interesting detail. However, it isn’t enough to distract us from Karlie’s gorgeous face.
4. Jourdan Dunn
Jourdan Dunn went in the opposite direction of a lot of people on the red carpet and selected white co-ords. She deserves something for rocking a bandeau top in December in London, but it’s the combination of the bright white top and flared pants that takes it. Her hair and makeup are also on point.
5. Kate Moss
Kate Moss attended the event in a black dress and showed everyone how it is done. This look has all of the elements that have made us obsessed with Kate’s style. It’s glamorous yet effortless, it’s a bit bohemian and it mixes and matches unexpected elements.
6. Gigi Hadid
There are a lot of different elements going on in Gigi Hadid’s look, but they all come together. You don’t even need to see her other leg to know that this is a win.
Soko put her signature spin on the night’s popular black dress trend with a lace top, sequined skirt and chunky platform shoes. We also cannot forget about the white tights and the red and navy bag. This is one of the reasons we need to be paying attention to Soko’s style.
8. Jenna Coleman
Every detail of Jenna Coleman’s dress was stunning from the white and pale blue fabric to the embellishment to the scarf detail in the back. Ruffles can sometimes be overwhelming, but these ones have the right amount of volume.
1. Lara Stone
A minimalist LBD could have been really cool. Sadly, Lara Stone’s doesn’t feel special enough for the red carpet. Furthermore, you can see the fit issues more clearly because of the simple design. The bodice is sagging at the sides and the hem could be just an inch longer to balance things out.
2. Zara Martin
Zara Martin had a look that was almost there. The knotted details look interesting, but sometimes they make the dress look more messy in certain poses. It would also be better if more of the sparkle from the shoes was on the dress.
3. Nicole Scherzinger
Nicole Scherzinger definitely went for it at the Fashion Awards. The issue is that there is just so much going on. If one or two elements were taken away, it could have been fantastic. The jury is also still out on the monokini-style cutouts with the fabric belt.
4. Jared Leto
Gucci is everywhere on the red carpet. Jared Leto’s outfit is cool, but there’s just something that isn’t working. It could be the hair, the glasses, or both, or it could be the sparkly bow tie plus the coat. It would have actually been very cool if Jared wore Alessandro Michele’s brocade suit.
