Will magazines ever get tired of styling young Hollywood actresses as Marilyn Monroe? Doubtful. But Michelle Williams just got done playing the doomed starlet in a movie, so GQ gets a pass this time. Is it just me or does Williams look uncomfortable in many of the shots? Maybe she’s channeling Marilyn’s bad mojo, or maybe she’s thinking about the things she said to the GQ writer about not wanting sexiness to be the main attribute for which she’s known:
“I wouldn’t say that that would be one of my first qualities as a human being – being sexy. And I think because my character on Dawson’s Creek was sexy… sexualized… sexual… I saw all the negative attention and connotations that can come along with that. And that those things can keep people from seeing you clearly.”
This is a completely reasonable thing to say, but I don’t think Williams is in much danger of being reduced thusly at this point, as she’s widely acknowledged to be one of the most talented actresses of her generation. I see at least one statue in her future.
