The Game of Thrones season 4 premiere was all sorts of stressful to watch (particularly considering HBO Go crashed last night and I couldn’t watch until this morning, agh!), but it was also a satisfying beginning to a season that promises so much action, I will undoubtedly be peeing myself each week in anticipation of my favorite characters all disappearing.
As one might have guessed, Game of Thrones‘ premiere included plenty of excellent fashion and beauty moments. The costume design was exceptional, just as it always has been, so let’s take a look at some of this week’s best moments.
Warning: There are mild spoilers in this post. Nothing too crazy, but gosh, I get stressed when people don’t warn me that they will be disclosing something, so I figured I would add a little warning anyway.
1. Joffrey’s gold and purple jacket
Is this the Westeros equivalent of a velour tracksuit?
2. Daenerys Targaryen’s braids
Her hair is always gorgeous, but I’m so into these braids.
3. …And these sexy flowers that coordinate with her dress
4. Cersei Lannister’s loose waves
As per usual, the lady’s got the loveliest golden locks.
5. Jaime Lannister’s gold hand
At some point, he waves it goodbye to another character and it is both hilarious and depressing.
6. This guy’s hair
Why? Because even though he (Tormund Giantsbane) was talking with Ygritte about killing people, I was still so alarmingly drawn to his weirdo hair that I didn’t even think about how bored I get with this plot line.
7. Styr’s head scarification
I love scarification and I had hoped they would incorporate it at some point. I only wish that every film and television show that has ever used it in their costume design wouldn’t exclusively pop it on the most violent, creepy people’s faces (in this case, a cannibal).
8. Jon Snow’s sexy leather vest
9. These fancy rejected necklaces
These aren’t necessarily ugly, but when Lady Olenna Tyrell is walking with her granddaughter to pick out wedding jewelry, she sees these necklaces and says, “You’re a queen, not an ox.” It was exactly what I’ve wanted to say about statement necklaces for years, all summed up by one of the show’s biggest BAMFs.
10. Margaery’s bridesmaids
I mean, they’re her ladies-in-waiting or whatever, but they look like super well-dressed bridesmaids in a wedding at a renaissance festival.
11. Margaery’s silver blue dress
Speaking of the bride-to-be, this is another gorgeous dress of hers.
12. Prince Oberyn’s…everything
Terrifying character, amazing introduction, fantastic robes.
13. Brienne of Tarth
SHE IS THE MOST WONDERFUL.
