It’s the beginning of awards season which means that the celebrities are getting ready to wow us on the red carpet…and hopefully pick up some awards. There are moments every year when a celebrity steps out on the red carpet and everyone’s jaws drop, from the reporters to the people watching at home in the pajamas. The outfit isn’t just guaranteed a spot on a best-dressed list, it earns a place on the best looks of all time list.
Then there are those outfits you will remember for the wrong reasons. It’s not just that a celebrity chose an unflattering color or did their hair in a strange updo, this is a step up from that. Sometimes it cannot even be explained. Did they take a risk? Definitely. Did it work out? For attention, yes. Whether for good or bad choices, these celebrities have earned spots in our memory for their Golden Globes red carpet choices.
These are the most memorable Golden Globes outfits of all time:
When Lupita Nyong’o stepped out onto the carpet in this Calvin Klein cape dress, everyone wanted to know who this fashionable girl was. She could not have picked a more fashionable-yet-timeless look for one of her first major red carpets.
Everyone usually sticks with long dresses so when Reese Witherspoon showed up in a short, yellow Nina Ricci dress, all the attention was on her. The dress was also enhanced by her red shoes and new side bangs.
Poor Lara Flynn Boyle. This might be one of the worst red carpet looks ever. We have seen some pretty ballet-inspired outfits, but this was not inspired. Lara Flynn Boyle looks like she came straight from dance class.
Keria Knightley made us obsessed with her elfin goddess style in this white Valentino dress. The strapless dress had a simple shape, but it fit her perfectly. Plus, that tassel detail is like nothing we had seen before or since then.
Jennifer Lawrence has worn a lot of gorgeous Dior dresses. Sadly, this one was not one of her best looks. It will be remembered along with the countless memes people created by wrapping black ribbon around their comforters.

Sharon Stone pretty much always looks hot when she steps out on the red carpet, but how many people have showed off their nipples in a sheer dress at the Golden Globes? And how many did it with a bondage belt detail around their waist?
Anne Hathaway’s shimmering Armani Privé could have been too much, but the simple long-sleeved silhouette balanced the exaggerated shoulders and paillettes. Her natural hair and makeup helped. We also cannot forget about the sexy open back.
Emma Stone wore this Lanvin jumpsuit a year ago, but it is pretty well a guarantee that people are still going to be talking about it 10 years from now. It was a jumpsuit with a train, and Emma totally pulled it off. There’s a reason it ended up on our best looks of 2015 list.
Can you believe that this was 10 years ago? Scarlett Johansson looked stunning in this red Valentino gown. She did not need sequins, a train or an exaggerated silhouette. She just needed a simply stunning dress.
Reese Witherspoon makes the list twice thanks to this vintage Chanel Haute Couture dress. She cannot go wrong with short dresses at the Golden Globes. This was sweet and unique, and something that everyone copied for their next formal event.
Jennifer Aniston has a classic style and this vintage Valentino gown was the perfect choice for her. It suited her style but it was interesting thanks to that well-placed buckle detail. And can we just talk about the hair for a second?
Even without a naked dress and sequins, Jennifer Lopez looked flawless. The color of this peachy Michael Kors dress could not have been better for showing off J.Lo’s famous glow.
Weren’t Johnny Depp and Kate Moss the most perfect couple? Sigh. Many wished they would have stayed together just for the fashion moments like this one. They are coordinated in their black outfits but they are still showing off their individual tastes.
