Last night, Baz Luhrmann‘s hotly anticipated reimagining of The Great Gatsby premiered in New York and the glittery movie’s cast showed up in their glitteriest looks. Except Carey Mulligan, who went the extreme opposite direction.
Many sparkles, sequins, pearls and appliques ahead…
Look at how Carey Mulligan went minimal! Although the dress and shoes are boring, we really like her fresh beauty look and jewelry-free limbs.
Since this movie is a big fashion spectacle (with costumes designed by Prada, as you know), Anna Wintour and Andre Leon Talley stopped by.
Talley appears to be wearing monogrammed Uggs…?
Jennifer Morrison went for a delicate lace tea length dress and white pumps, harkening to the retro theme but not too literally.
Also, her sandals look like they have little blister pads all over the straps. :(
Leonardo DiCaprio wore a suit, as famous men are wont.
Kate Mulvany‘s hair and makeup are way over-the-top.
Also, sheer lace neon dresses feel very been-there-done-that.
Isla Fisher, Florence Welch, Nina Dobrev and more ahead.
Joel Edgerton brought ladyfriend Alexis Blake, and although we don’t like ridiculously high slits, we’re pretty okay with this.
Adelaide Clemens’ look says, “I’m at the Great Gatsby premiere.”
While Carey Lowell‘s emphatically does not.
There is a lot going on with Emeli Sande‘s shoes.
Sorry. Michael K. Williams and Jeymes Samuel went dapper.
Okay, so the gold detailing at the bottom of Coco Owino‘s dress feels unnecessary–but the light blue is a pretty great color on her, is it not?
Not feeling Florence Welch’s sailor suit/gown + formal cravat.
There is a bit too much going on in Isla Fisher’s gown for us, but we kind of love it from the hips up.
Also, her hair looks supernatural, as always.
Say it ain’t so, Jenna Lyons! The J. Crew honcho usually looks on point but this feels so incoherent.
Franca Sozzani does what she wants and we just nod quietly.
Nina Dobrev, no stranger to overdoing everything, overdid things with much gold and glitter.
