Ladies and gentlemen, today, July 5, the bikini bathing suit turns 66 years old. The perfect age, we think, to actually rock a bikini. Take a cue from Helen Mirren if you have doubts about it.
The notorious two-piece bathing suit, which we all know men prefer a hundred times over to the one-piece (screw you, men), was invented by Louis Réard on July 5, 1946. He named the creation after Bikini Atoll in the South Pacific, where he had allegedly seen women rolling up their bathing suits in order to tan more thoroughly.
So I’m going to go eat a piece of cake now in honor of the bikini’s birthday, and also, to show it that it’s not the boss of me.
