Hot Pick: The Hemma Collection
Fashion that mixes traditional African textiles and patterns with modern trends and silhouettes speaks to me. That’s why I’m jonesing for a piece of the Hemma collection; the black stretch wool Sena dress (pictured below) is my favorite.
Designed by New Yorker’s Cindy Gaston and Edna Bissoon, Hemma creates fresh, elegant collections using authentic, hand-woven Kente, a textile rich in African royal tradition.
By incorporating the same techniques used to dress Ghanaian nobility for centuries, Hemma allows each client to exude royalty. And I’m ready to be queen for a day!
A percentage of Hemma’s sales will be donated to La Yahoushua middle school in Ghana, West Africa where the designers taught and were inspired to start their collection.
