Black pink pleated midi

Ever since Eloquii‘s epic #MidiMoment campaign, I have been thinking nonstop about how awesome midi skirts are. They’re the best of both worlds: you get enough coverage that your legs don’t free (provided it’s not 15 degrees outside) but you also get to show off your calves, wear a pretty pair of shoes, and swirl and swish around like you’re in an adorable Tumblr GIF.

Personally, though, I have typically either worn short skirts, ultra-long ones, or pants, so I am not as familiar as I’d like to be with wearing midi-length garments (the other being culottes, which our lovely writer Kelsey was kind enough to explain here). So, today I’m doing a bit of exploration into the world of Pinterest style ideas to show you (and myself) all the wonderful ways to style a midi skirt for spring!

1. Pair plaid with leather.

2. Wear mesh midi with a crop top.

With Memorial Day and the Fourth of July coming up, you need this look in your closet. If you want to rock the red, white, and blue like Liz Black of P.S. It’s Fashion, you can pick up this blue mesh skirt over at Eloquii.

3. Stick to solids for an elegant look.

If you want to look like a 1950s movie star who’s off to lunch with her big Hollywood producers, take a page from Girl With Curves blogger Tanesha Awasthi‘s book. This smooth white midi skirt and mustard-colored top, combined with effortlessly polished hair and makeup, are giving her the perfect Grace Kelly vibe.

4. Go neon.

It’s spring! It’s time to break out your neon items. Keep the overall look adult by accompanying your neon midi with basic pieces like a denim shirt and black shoes.

5. Match it to your crop top.

6. Pick a creamy top to go with a floral midi.

Heading to a fancy daytime wedding? This gorgeous floral skirt and creamy blouse combo make for the perfect outdoor party outfit.

7. Make your look monochromatic.

If you’re not quite ready for pastel colors and flower print dresses, you can get a gorgeous dark look by matching a crop top to a cool midi skirt in a matching dark shade. Sydne Summer of Sydne Style picked two beautiful pieces to go together, then kept her accessories along the same lines, adding just a pop of color with the soles of her shoes and her red lipstick.

8. Dress up a simple tee.

For days when you really don’t want to part with your favorite t-shirt, you can always dress it up with a pleated pastel midi skirt, a statement necklace, heels, and the perfect pedicure.

9. Wear a crisp white button down with a pastel midi.

To be honest, this is probably my favorite look of the bunch. I’m all about prints and crop tops and pleats, but guys, this look is perfect. All you need is a mustard bag and a pair of cute heels (or flats) and you’re set for spring, summer, and fall.

10. Find the coolest print ever and wear the heck out of it.

Surely, I am not the only person who finds this to be the loveliest print on the planet, am I? (The best part: it’s on sale right now!) Keep this look focused on the skirt by wearing just a basic white top and coordinated shoes.

11. Don’t be afraid to get funky.

The midi skirt has a reputation for being a sweet, summery piece, but it’s easy to get edgy by adding cool accessories like leather straps, black boots, or purple or black lipstick.

12. Go full-on country club.

13. Make the whole look black and white.

With all these lovely vibrant looks, it’s easy to forget that a classic black and white outfit always performs well. Just keep your accessories simple if you plan on wearing stripes!

14. Try tulle for a change.

As adults, we typically do not think of tulle as a viable option for wearing in real life (besides maaaybe those occasional drunken Pretty Pretty Princess games — just me? Oh, okay). But wearing a tulle skirt can take your look from cute to ethereal without going over-the-top, just so long as you keep the top fairly simple (no sequins or sparkles) and, y’know, don’t wear a crown.

15. Pair a solid crop top with a printed midi.

Can’t get enough of prints this season? Try Sandee Joseph of CurvEnvy‘s style by wearing easy black crop top with 3/4 sleeves and a large-print midi skirt for a cute silhouette.

16. Add a gold belt.

To dress up a simple pleated midi for work, add a gold or silver braided belt. For an extra coordinated touch, swipe on a matching lipstick.

17. Mix stripes and polka dots.

For those who dare to mix prints, the trick is to stick to a palette with one piece featuring a large print and the other a small or thin pattern.

18. Wear a patterned top with a solid midi.

Another gorgeous look from Girl With Curves, this sweet and chic outfit shows how well dusty rose and black go together. Wear it to work, for a big date, to brunch with friends…it works well for any occasion.

19. Make your own!

20. Pair red with nude.

You know why people are always obsessed with those nude and red Louboutins? Because red and nude look freaking amazing together.

21. Go gray.

I’ll spare you the Fifty Shades of Grey jokes, but I’m willing to bet some of you aren’t into the whole “bright colors” thing, regardless of what season it is. If you still wish to wear a midi skirt, an outfit like this is a great way to do so! Silver accessories, black shoes, and a perfect pair of sunglasses complete the look.

22. Pleats and plain black are an exquisite win.
