Nude clothing isn’t just a signature look for the Kardashians, it is a popular look for lots of celebrities. We’re not talking about illusion dresses. We’re talking nude-colored clothing that complements a celeb’s skin tone. Nude-toned clothing isn’t limited to one color. It can range from soft ivories to deep browns. Choosing the right shade and style of clothing is vital. If you make the wrong choice, you will look like you’re wearing nothing at all.

Here’s a guide on how to wear nude-colored clothing:

1. Don’t try to match your skin exactly.

When it comes to foundation, you want to find a shade that seamlessly blends in with your skin. However, when you’re shopping for nude-colored clothing, you want to have a bit of contrast between your skin tone and your clothes. Nude shoes are the exception.

2. Try a loose silhouette.123016, Taylor Swift seen leaving 'The Smile' restaurant to her house in NYC. New York, New York - Friday JUly 18, 2014. Photograph: © RGK, PacificCoastNews. If you’re concerned about looking naked, choose looser styles instead of going the traditional form-fitted route. No one is going to mistake a breezy skirt or a boxy top for exposed body parts.

3. Think about texture and embellishment.

Lace, beading, sparkles, tassels or whatever decoration you want, can make a flesh-toned piece look less nude. However, the look can also backfire, if you choose the wrong nude piece. If you match your skin too closely, it will look like you have some strange sparkly skin disease from far away.

4. Show some skin.

You may be wearing a nude colored piece, but you need to show some actual skin too. It doesn’t need to be a lot. It can be a bit of arm or some legs. You just need to show there is some contrast between your actual skin and your outfit. And to stop it from looking like you’re wearing a long-sleeved body stocking.

5. Choose one nude-toned piece.

A head-to-toe neutral look is classic but you can still participate in the trend by only wearing one piece. Choose a nude top or a skirt and pair it with a contrasting neutral such as white or bright colors.

6. Layer a contrasting color over your flesh-toned pieces.Kim Kardashian leaving the Dash store without her sunglasses and has to shield her eyes from the sun with her hand Featuring: Kim Kardashian Where: Los Angeles, California, United States When: 17 Jun 2015 Credit: Michael Wright/WENN.com

If you’re still debating about whether your look is more naked than neutral, layer a jacket in a different color over top. It also helps if you’re uncertain whether the nude top you picked enhances your skin’s undertone or just washes you out.

7. Remember your underwear.

Unless you’re doing nude leather or latex a la Kim Kardashian, you have to make sure your underwear isn’t visible through your outfit. Stay away from white and choose a nude bra and panties. Polka dot underwear showing through a nude dress isn’t the best look.
