Another high fashion luminary has come forward to express his sorrow over John Galliano’s firing at the house of Dior. In addition to calling Galliano “an enormous talent,” Jean Paul Gaultier said that Galliano’s multicultural collections are proof positive of his not-racism. As a refresher, this was the same tack taken by Purple editor Oliver Zahm.

Gaultier said:

“Everything he has done has not revealed someone who is racist — quite to the contrary.”

As for the notorious video:

“With recordings, people can be made to say things that they did not say. […] The person (speaking to Galliano) seems very assured, knowing very well what she is doing.”

Gaultier hopes Galliano will ultimately return to fashion and “find an inner peace.”
