Celebrity weddings are my guiltiest pleasure. There’s nothing I love more than a big, over-the-top, famous-person wedding, so I was ridiculously excited to hear that Jessica Simpson tied the knot with Eric Johnson last weekend. But my joy turned to antsy frustration when I realized that there were no pictures of her dress! (I’m sure love and companionship and mutual support are great things, but I really only care about the wedding dresses.) I eyed her Instagram for days waiting for a glimpse, but none were forthcoming.
But now People has revealed the cover of their next issue, out Friday, and the front page is littered with photos of Jessica Simpson in her secret wedding dress, and it’s gorgeous.
The strapless tulle gown is by Carolina Herrera, and it’s a lovely shade of champagne that is heavily embroidered all over in gold.
“The whole dress is embroidered in gold and feels very regal,” Herrera told People. She said the design goal was to turn the bride into a “beautiful golden girl,” and it looks like she succeeded.
As someone who watched Simpson and Nick Lachey on Newlyweds religiously back in 2003–I think that’s what started my embarrassing addiction to celebrity weddings–I like this wedding dress much better than the frothy white one she wore then. The color is excellent on Simpson, and it looks wonderful with her cluster of 12 bridesmaids, who appear to be wearing some sort of seafoam shade. The silhouette is traditional without being too princessy and fluffy, and I want to shake the hands of the embroiderers responsible for that embellishment.
