The first runways featuring 2016 wears have come and gone and the newest ones are right around the corner. But what better time to take advantage of runway trends than right at the turn of the new year?
A lot of the time, runway trends are hard to actually transition into real life, what with ridiculousness like Rick Owens and his human backpacks (or dick cutouts) and succulent hair pieces (which were gorgeous, but not very wearable). But sometimes, taking a small aspect of the clothing and accessories that walk the runways and streets during Fashion Week can lead to big payouts in the style department.
Here are a few jewelry and accessory trends from the runways that you should bring into your every day life.
Chunky Chain Accents
Chunky chains have been a part of a lot of runways in the past (both on accessories and jewelry) but design houses like Alexander Wang and Marni put them at the forefront of their accessory story on the runway. Go for a larger, heavy chain instead of the expected smaller chains on a clutch and find a modern alternative to those chains of the early 2000’s.
Senso Umbrai Heel (Revolve, $175)
Black Zipper Fur PU Chain Bag (Romwe, $25)
Knotty Links Collar (Baublebar, $42)
While I’m not touting putting branded zipties around your neck, Christopher Kane has made a point. The choker has been used and abused more now than it was in the ’90s and I have a feeling it’s here to stay. Play up a more feminine style rather than the all black with a metallic band or colored fabric.
Milanna Alma Leather Choker (Nasty Gal, $48)
Regal Rose Valeska Tassel Choker Necklace (Asos, $31)
Hinged Cutout Choker (Forever 21, $14.90)

Graphic Printed Accessories
Graphic print is always big on the runways and style blogs and 2015-2016 is no different. Opt for bold, classic colorways like black-and-white and red-and-black instead of neons or pastels.
LA CARTELLA Handbag (Yoox, $122)
JÉRÔME DREYFUSS Norbert Graphic-Print Canvas Tote (Matches, $274)
DV by Dolce Vita Tyler Pump (Shoe Metro, $33)
Shoulder Dusting Statement Earrings
Personally, statement earrings never did anything for me (probably because I let my ears close like, 10 years ago) but the pieces we saw on the runways are GORGEOUS. Shoulder dusting styles in bright colors and stones of all shapes and sizes are in, and it’s time to stock up.
I Still Love You NYC Luxe Drop Earrings (Nasty Gal, $65)
Kenneth Jay Lane Gold-Plated Resin Chandelier Earrings (Stylebop, $110)
Extreme Hair Jewelry
The hair jewelry trend is nothing knew, but it’s about to turned up to 11. Go big or go home, with large feathers, tiaras and embellished flower crowns (say goodbye to those DIY days).
ASOS Leaf Crown Headband (Asos, $26)
Gold Feather Hair Clip (Etsy, $24)
Crystal Flower Crown (Cult Gaia, $115)
