It’s great to see that 2015 has already brought us some diverse ad campaigns and magazines covers, so far. And the seniors are having a major moment. First, Dolce & Gabbana featured three chic older ladies in their latest campaign. It was only a new days ago that Céline revealed that 80-year-old icon Joan Didion was the face of their new Spring/Summer 2015 campaign. Now, you can add 71-year-old Joni Mitchell to the list of models. Saint Laurent announced on Twitter that Joni was featured in the new Saint Laurent Music Project campaign.
The iconic singer-songwriter appears in three campaign images. In the black and white photos, she is wearing a Saint Laurent folk tunic, the classic Saint Laurent wide-brimmed fedora and a custom leather cape, which Hedi Slimane designed for her. Of course, she is strumming her guitar. The photographs were taken at Joni’s home in Bel Air, California, and the images were also shot by Hedi, according to Style.com.
The photos are simple, but evocative and captivating. Bravo to Saint Laurent for not photoshopping Joni into some 20-year-old version of herself. You can see the emotion and feeling into the photos. The images are part of the Saint Laurent Music Project, with previously featured other musical icons including Courtney Love, Marianne Faithful and Marilyn Manson.
It’s great to see such interesting Spring/Summer 2015 campaigns that don’t feature the same type of model, over, and over. We look forward to seeing more diverse campaigns, and hopefully someone will land a magazine cover, or two.
