Happy 34th birthday to Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge and the shiny hair idol we deserve! Kate’s official royal title may say “duchess,” but her sophisticated sense of style says “queen.” And in honor of her birthday, let’s take a look at 11 times when George and Charlotte’s mum proved that she’s the master of understated elegance.

The time when she looked drop dead gorgeous in a sassy shade of purple

This is one of my favorite Kate looks of all time. Purple is such a glorious color on her, and I wish she’d wear it more often. Kate’s also wearing a Canadian maple leaf brooch, on loan from Queen Elizabeth, which warms my cold Canuck heart.

Nobody does bangs and a bright blue jacket like the Duchess!

All three ladies look pretty spectacular in this photo. I like the yellow dress the most, but Kate’s big smile and red and cream gown are gorgeous, too.

This is a picture of Kate and bb Prince George hanging out at a polo match that the Princes William and Harry were playing in. I love Kate’s casual, busy-mom-on-the-go look and George’s fat little knees.

That time when she made me cry because she went hard for Canada

I’m not even kidding about that whole crying thing. This photo was taken on Canada Day in 2011, when Kate and Prince William came to Ottawa, Ontario. I waited, like, four hours in the blistering heat to see them arrive—in a horse-drawn carriage, nonetheless! I was so happy (and probably a little delirious from the sun) that I cried when they rode past. Anyway, Kate looks amazing in red and white, and she should always be wearing that little Canadian maple leaf hat. #LOVE, #PRINCESSOFCANADA, #PRINCESSOFMYHEART, etc, etc.

First of all, RUDE, and second of all, WRONG. Kate looks like a vision in this yellow Roksanda Ilincic dress—not a banana.

This dress is so lovely that Kate decided to wear it twice. She debuted the Orla Kiely design in March of 2012 and then wore it again this past October (pictured above). I love the pleated skirt, embellished neckline, and Kate’s sassy ponytail.

That peachy coral is not an easy color to pull off, but Kate wears it beautifully.

You guys remember that day? I sure do—I was up at the crack-of-dawn o’clock to watch it live on TV (and yes, you guessed it, I cried the whole time)! Anyway, both Kate’s ceremony and reception dresses were glorious, and both were designed by the brilliant Sarah Burton.

This is casual Kate at her finest. I love that button-up blouse and blazer.

This is my favorite of Kate look of all time. That Jenny Packham dress is just jaw-droppingly gorgeous, and Kate’s hair looks so effing good. Seriously, she looks like she’s on her way to win every Oscar or something. Sparkly Princess Kate is the best Princess Kate.
