There is not much in the world that can upstage Kate Middleton at a public appearance, but if anybody can do it, Prince George can. In just his second public appearance since he was born at the end of July, the 9-month-old managed to take all attention away from his parents with just a cozy cream sweater and some fat little legs.
That is one cute baby.
Not that the Duchess of Cambridge did not make an effort. She wore a flattering red coat and a matching hat with a platinum and diamond fern-shaped brooch borrowed from Queen Elizabeth II. If Kate Middleton hadn’t been carrying that cuddly little baby to distract us, all we’d be talking about would be how much we want her cool red coat, with all its silver buttons and its big, flared skirt.
The skirt did cause some trouble, though. In spite of Kate Middleton’s much-discussed, Queen-ordered, fancy-lady makeover, the Duchess’ skirts just could not be kept down. Her penchant for flirty, swingy skirts has led to some much-photographed wardrobe malfunctions on windy days, and the Queen was said to have ordered the Duchess to start wearing hem weights to keep her skirts down. But if Middleton’s wardrobe team did sew weights into her hem, they don’t appear to be helping much:
Oops! Still, it could be worse. Prince William looks nice in his blue suit and cool tie, and Prince George’s face is so cute nobody is really looking at his mom’s thighs anyway.
