Groups always have that one standout person. *NSYNC had Justin Timberlake and his noodle hairOne Direction has Harry Styles, and Destiny’s Child had Beyoncé. It didn’t matter who was added or who left the group, it was always the Beyoncé show. You could put Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams in the same basic outfit, and all that people would talk about is how amazing Bey looked. It’s unfair because Kelly could rock a pair of bootylicious leather pants as well as Bey–and sometimes she did it better–but she didn’t get the credit she deserved.

Here are 13 times Kelly Rowland look flawless but didn’t get enough recognition for her red carpet choices:

Destiny’s Child must have really loved this dress because they decided to all wear it. Kelly’s black version is the best. You don’t need to have a bright color when you have all that embellishment, otherwise it turns into a pageant queen look.

There is a lot of leather here. Kelly broke up her leather look by choosing a mini leather skirt and boots. She wisely paired it with a non-leather turtleneck. Beyoncé and Michelle are practically drowning in black leather.

3. MTV TRL, 2001

Good job, Kelly, for ditching the metallic silver cowboy hat. Even though she is wearing a pair of blue suede chaps, she made the smart decision to keep the fringe to a minimum. Take note, Michelle and Beyoncé.

4. MTV Fight For Your Rights Press Nominations, 2001Destiny's Child at the press conference for MTV's Year Long Pro Social campaign, 'Fight for Your Rights: Take a Stand Against Discrimination' at the MTV Studios in New York City, 6/14/01. The program will give $50,000 Leadership Scholarships to five young people who are fighting discrimination in their communities. Did Beyoncé get injured? She is wearing bandages on her arms, isn’t she? There isn’t any thing confusing about Kelly’s outfit. She is rocking a Spider-Man tank top, which is very fashion forward considering the first Tobey Maguire Spider-Man didn’t come out until 2002, and that was when Spidey fashion really started. Way to stay ahead of the curve.

How pretty is Kelly’s periwinkle dress? The short, fitted silhouette prevents it from looking like curtains, and the delicate shoes were a wise choice. However, Kelly got overshadowed by Beyoncé who is wearing so much pink Barbie would be jealous.

Kelly’s cropped halter top fits her perfectly, and shows off those enviable abs. She also deserves credit for wearing embellished pants outside of an Elvis convention.

It looks like Michelle and Beyoncé’s dresses were involved in a cutting accident. Kelly’s dress looks complete, and the color is amazing on her. She is also working that thigh-high slit like a true pro.

It’s all about color here. Kelly’s black dress works well with her skin tone, while Michelle and Bey’s gowns wash them out. That halter neckline is also perfect for Kelly.

If you need a lesson on how to wear a statement belt, look to Kelly. She went with the simplest look, and it worked out for the best. Sorry, Beyoncé, but even with all of that bling, my eye still focuses on Kelly.

10. Elizabeth Glaser Pediatrics AIDS Foundation Event, 2000Destiny's Child

It’s difficult to know how to accessorize you leather pants and tie-dye top. Kelly matched her boots to her top and kept her hair and makeup simple. She knew glasses with blue lenses would not earn her extra style points.

Kelly cannot go wrong in a halter neckline. The cutout sides are also a great detail. They give the outfit interest, and make her body look even more amazing than it already is.

Beyoncé earns points for clever branding, but if you take off the belt, she is wearing a nightgown and a very uncomfortable pair of shoes. Kelly’s outfit is simpler. It doesn’t need ajazzy belt. This was the exact going out top everyone wanted to wear in the early 2000s.

13. Billboard Music Awards, 2001Destinys Child Billboard Awards 2001

Beyonce’s dress has a great fit, but Kelly’s polka dot one is so cute. Kelly also deserves extra style points for trying over-the-knee boots way before they become popular.
